I came across a BP from years ago (October 2005, IIRC) with "Hospitality Class" on it. The flight was AC860 from YYT-LHR, a flight that stopped operating in 2006.

Actually, AC operated YYT-LHR non-stop up until a few years ago (seasonal / year-round service on a 319 IIRC).

Yes indeed they did, but this was as AC822/823, not as AC860/861. The non-stop flights operated with A319 until they switched to the 737 MAX prior to the grounding. I do miss the 767 I have to say, that was such a nice plane.

But 860 continued to operate as YHZ-LHR, so neither YYT-LHR nor AC860 ceased in 2006

You are correct, but that was YHZ-LHR, not YHZ-YYT-LHR.

But your statement was "The flight was AC860 from YYT-LHR, a flight that stopped operating in 2006". Neither AC860 nor YYT-LHR stopped operating in 2006. AC860 may have stopped operating as YYT-LHR, but that's not what you said

Today marks the 11th anniversary of the beginning of the itineraries that involved pretty much the greatest possible use of a single SSWU certificate.

You see I needed to be in the UK in March. In May I needed to be in Australia. At that time you could get incredibly good fares on AC metal for LHR-SYD-LHR both in J (too rich for my blood at the time) and also Y. And you got a free stopover in each direction.

So on March 7, 2009, I departed from YYZ to LHR on a very cheap round trip ticket in Y. The only thing I remember about the flight was that I got the poor man's upgrade of a bank of three Y seats on a mostly empty 763 to sleep on. I would not use the return from LHR to YYZ until May.

But I couldn't possibly spend so much time away from The Lovely Mrs. Zorn so a few days later in March I began my epic journey from LHR to SYD. Being such a long trip I stopped in YYZ from March until May. Then I went to SYD in May, using one of my two SSWU certificates I got that year as a lowly E.

After my week in SYD it was time to go home. SYD-YVR-LHR to finish off the second half of that ticket, a few hours in the lounge in LHR, then back home to YYZ to finish off the second half of the first ticket. I guess I could have just stopped in YYZ and sacrificed the remaining segments but I needed the miles.

As luck would have it, my SYD-LHR (via YVR) managed to get upgraded using my single, solitary remaining SSWU upgrade certificate for the entire 12500 odd miles.

There was a bit of embarrassment on the last LHR-YYZ - I met two colleagues on that flight who thought I was supposed to be in Australia that week! I sort of lied and said it was cheaper to come back this way. Technically it was correct - I spent far less on both trips than if I had purchased the tickets in the usual more straightforward way.

I recall buying a LHR-YYZ <stop> YYZ-SYD <stop> SYD-YYZ <stop> YYZ-LHR <stop> ticket for ~$5,000 in J versus over $10,000 at that time to do YYZ-SYD-YYZ.

Gave me a comfortable business trip and two halves of a vacation at a reasonable price.

I was moving some items on a bookcase including some photo albums from before the earth cooled.

So far it's the first paper documentation I've found from a trip on AC even though I had been flying them for a couple of years at that point. On this trip, I flew to LA to visit family friends. I was still a minor under Canadian law, but apparently, it was ok to fly unaccompanied.

Looks like I bought the ticket in Nov 1976. And yes, I'm that old.

AC 791 YUL-LAX was Jan 2 1977

AC 790 LAX-YUL was Jan 19 1977

And for historical reference, the price was $315 CAD RT, base fare was $304.

BP for 790

I was never a fan of the matte finish on photos of that "era".

Still, this was the first time I recall taking photos from a gate and both flights were the L-1011. This trip was the only time I flew that aircraft (both directions)

I scanned the original photo but it looked fuzzy, so I used the old iPhone to take a photo. It was grainy but sharper.

Now if I could only tell which Fin

@jasdou had shared some photos of old Québecair aircraft. I replied that I once flew them. Then I wondered if I had any collectibles. I knew I did my first flight with AC when I was 10. I remember the outdoor viewing terrace at Dorval, but not much else.

So I did some tomb raiding in the storage boxes. I found a trip to Europe I did the summer of 1976. Yes, 24left did the 70s.

Trip included 4 flights - 2 on AC and 2 on the late TWA.

I think the kids these days call this stuff "vintage".

Inside the AC ticket folder. I think we all had 2 checked bags. At least they had wheels. But seriously, what was I even thinking.

Inside the TWA folder. Looks like both return flights

Another antique AC BP. Outbound was YUL-JFK-LHR. Return was CDG-JFK-YUL

Who remembers seat stickers on BPs? lol

I recall the flight was more than half empty as we all kept changing seats. It wasn't my first TATL, but adult supervision was optional.

And LOL, look at the wording in the red section, lower left. "computer generated".

Solid plastic. No idea why I have this.

For those old enough to remember, back in ancient times, one had to reconfirm your return flights. I recall going to ticket offices in cities in a few places.

Looks like this ticket was issued April 29 1976.

And it seems I went to the TWA office in GVA on July 20 1976 to re-confirm and it shows AC 749 for Aug 10 1976

Since it's all part of the same trip, it seems the post above with my photo of the AC L-1011 at LAX was not the only planeporn I had from that era.

This was the 747 we flew CDG-JFK.

OMG, I actually have "Above AND Behind the Wing" photo. I was an avgeek-in-training. ✈️

For those who wonder what airline liability wording was back then....

Just discovered this thread, since I don't fly anymore (who does!) and rarely come into Flyertalk.

But I can probably max out in the reminiscing department with a very unique angle - in that I wrote a monthly column for the Canadian Airlines inflight magazine for several years - some of you will have read it - and had a radio show on the inflight entertainment system of Air Canada sometime subsequent - and some of you will have listened to it!

Savvy researchers will take the time to find me. PM me LOL!
