Air Canada to Launch Non-Stop Montreal-Shanghai Flights

Tomorrow

Looks like a big splash, likely service to PEK on the days code-share partner Air China doesn't fly, but that's just my guess.

Further cementing YUL's continued comparative dominance over YYC.

Ooh, that would've been nice last year when I flew YUL-YYZ-PEK.

Mind you, that connection was fairly painless. But direct would've been sweet.

Maybe AC & Air China finally finalized the MOU on a Metal-Neutral TPAC JV announced almost two years ago.

And curiously enough, I'm sure we'll only see availability on AC to PEK when booking thru Aeroplan with a lot of YQ $$ and not on their partner CA that doesn't have YQ... But that's a long story between Aeroplan and CA.

CAN and CTU new routes

Increased frequencies to PVG and PEK.

My best guess.

I didn't see it reported here but CA and LH just inked a JV between China and Europe 2 days ago so it seems likely something similar to be announced.

You don't think maybe they're just going to announce some menu improvements? I mean, this is AC after all.

Not 100% clear to me that the announcement relates to YUL. Apart from the press conference taking place in Montreal, that is.

You mean, enhancements, perhaps?

Or due to the fact that Hainan already does that route (and it's new).

That's true but the headline is Major Montreal Announcement. The location of a press conference isn't worthy of a headline mention if it doesn't involve that city. And if it's a route announcement for services to/from other cities, they would either have the announcement in one of those cities, or have multiple press conferences. I suppose the JV announcement is a possibility.

I don't think the CA flash sale from sept 23-25 is a coincidence

From an employee working at AC, the word seems to be additional service to PEK but again, not 100% sure.
