It has been rumored that the mini J cabin (which holds 10 J seats) will be reconfigured to PY, most likely 21 seats like the 787 PY cabins. But that would only take you to 276 seats. So you need to gain an additional 16 seats in Y, two full rows, either by reducing seat pitch or by going with slimline seats. There are 30 Y rows so I guess you could take out 2" of pitch per row to squeeze in two additional rows. But that would take you to ACr-type seat pitch.
I don't know if it gives a clue or not but I have a flight in December in AC J on a A333 and the seat map only includes J seats from row 1 to 9. Same thing on ExpertFlyer and seats 10 to 13 are also inexistent and not just "blocked". A PY seats query gives an invalid result and the Y seat map is the current one.

The re-configured A330 sees a configuration of J27W21Y244, total 292 seats with aircraft code 33H. So the mini cabin is replaced by PY, and they're going 9 across.

Not exactly surprising. But upgrades will be harder.

I think they will remove lavatory at 2R and squeeze another 2 rows of Y in the existing space !

Yes. there are only going to be 16 more Y seats, so this seems much more likely than 9 across. 9 across would add 25-30 more (depending on how they deal with the narrowing at the back).

The Y cabin will remain 8-across. The current J seats take up a lot of "real estate" on the plane, so by removing the second J cabin, there is a lot of room for PY plus additional Y seats.

Will the new Y be new Y seats or the older seats?

Also, will they reduce pitch in Y to make room for more preferred seats? Some folks here have said that the A330 Y seats are among the most comfortable Y in the fleet. That doesn't make it easy to sell preferred. But reduced pitch and maybe slimline seats could easily up the sales of preferred.

I don't want them to reduce pitch, but it seems to be AC's standard operating practice.

The A333 Y seats are indeed the most comfortable at 18" seat width and good seat pitch, but perhaps that's exactly why AC might get rid of them. Why make travellers comfortable when you can make them suffer so they'll pay to NOT suffer next time?

So, based on ac-YUL's post, they're pulling out the J seats in the mini-cabin and replacing them with a mix of PY and Y seats so as to get the J27W21Y244 configuration. Can they realistically leave the rest of the cabin untouched? Logically, they'd have to at the very least change the IFE so it's consistent across the plane, no?

This is a sad announcement for me, as I love the A side of the mini J cabin on the A330s.

That is the big selling feature between Airbus and Boeing as Airbus sells comfort for passengers at 18 and Boeing sell more profit for airlines at 17!

I like the A330, too bad there are only 10 in the fleet! Looking forward to my J flight Milan - YYZ in July.

This is a commonly misunderstood thing in aviation.

It's up to the operators to figure out how they want to configure their cabin. (legally of course).

Yes, the final say is up to the airlines, but the manufactures do sell/market their models and supporting numbers by their cabin set up. Boeing does market the 777 as a 10 across aircraft.
