@ziggurat - If you have official documentation, I'd say you're fine, 100%. But you may need to put some effort into it. Twitter (see above) is a very good suggestion, even if you're not an active user. Create an account and message them.

Air Canada's Facebook page works too. Post a public message on their wall stating that you have a customer service issue that you've been waiting 6 weeks for resolution and would like to be contacted via your Facebook inbox.

Hi, just a quick question that I hope someone can help me with. My wife and I were on a flight from Las Vegas to Calgary about 6 weeks ago. We were told the flight was overbooked and that if we volunteered to get bumped we would get a cheque for $1350 US each as well as hotel and some food vouchers. We decided to go for it, and we stayed overnight and they got us home the next day.
Think you need to read the fine print, sure somewhere on there it states you must also hit 3-cherries on the slot machine closest to D54 @ LAS to collect the offer. I was on a DL flihgt exLAS a few months ago. Offers of $700USD were required to offload a couple PAX. It's fascinating that the same people who scoured the internet, and will connect to save $50 on an airfare would not be willing to take a delayed flight home for that kind of money. So strange. |

So strange. - The people who are so hung over and played out, they don't even hear the announcement let alone are able to stand up and go to the podium. - People who actually need to go to work the next day so would be unable to stay overnight (or take later flight which invariably could be a redeye - ugh) Personally, when it's time to leave Vegas for me, it's time to go and it would actually take a lot of money for me to stay. My best story was when there was a diversion on AC from SFO to LAS because of high winds and it entailed an overnight. I called the casino host, had a nice car pick me up at the airport and never came back for the rescheduled flight. No compensation necessary ! |

IME, LAS rogue/rouge agents are far from competent compared to mainline staff. They have a bad tendency to say anything so you can become someone else's problem.
This is why its always a very good idea to have all your paperwork confirmed before signing anything and especially before walking away from the counter. You can definitely try contacting customer relations, however unless you have documentation proving this VDB cash offer, for such a short flight (cash offers for vdb are always lower than travel vouchers) I wouldn't expect much. I'm very surprised they would even offer such an amount given it is very easy to solicit volunteers at LAS for much lower amounts. And for a voucher never mind cash. ac doesn't have a base at las. they're the same swissport contract employees that handled when mainline, so, yeah, extra unuseful 1350usd for 2x is...wow. you sure it wasn't 13.50us? |
Well, it appears that this is all going to be resolved pretty easily. I had submitted an email on the website as one of the first posters suggested. I guess I just assumed that the email would disappear into the void and I would have to keep chasing after them. But the very next day I got a call from a very helpful-sounding lady from customer relations.
She said that the agents had never submitted any paperwork about us getting bumped (which fits pretty well with what a few posters said about the agents at that location). She was very apologetic and asked me to scan and email her copies of the paperwork that we received. I did so, and one day later she called and said she would be issuing the cheques immediately. She gave me her direct number in case there were any further problems. I have to say, I'm actually pretty surprised by how helpful AC was in this situation. After reading people's comments here, I was expecting a big fight. AC certainly exceeded my expectations. Assuming the cheques actually come of course. |

Haha I agree but when you take into account what people look like when they are leaving LAS, I think there are various factors at play.
If you have a host with a high enough theo for them to comp you a limo ride and room during irrops then this may be chump change for you. But for most of Rouge fliers it's half a months pay cheque |
Not much use if you get fired for not showing up for work the next day though. In most cases the lower paid the employee the more expendable the employer tend to regard them as. So a large cash sum might not be as attractive as you'd think - especially if it's not cash in the hand there and then and the passenger has already blown the last of their vacation budget before heading to the airport.

$1350 usd is more take home pay for the average Canadian biweekly. Never mind having to call in sick or take an unpaid leave day. There has to be other forces at work here. Some of the gate microphones don't work very well or ppl simply don't trust ac to pay up (as the op came back to verify was somewhat true)

More common is to allow an employee whos having difficulty getting back home in time (I.e. bumped) a day off unpaid, at the very least. I do agree trust issues with AC (especially from flying rouge). May be more at play. Or a broken microphone (where there are many at Las) muffling the communique. |
