Air Canada YMM fire master thread

Anybody flown in our out?

For now it seems the airport says it is operational but i notice both AC and WS seem to have cancelled all their flights this morning - although you can still buy tickets for today on the web site.

My thoughts are with everyone in that community. Stay safe.

Looks like they may have recently opened up airspace? Two WJ Encore Q400s on approach simultaneously as I post this.

For those who might not know, YMM = Fort McMurrary, Alberta, which is being evaculated due to wildfires now. There's apparently only one road open out of the place.

Are you sure it's wise to try to fly there now, even if flights are operating, unless you're some sort of a qualified first responder?

Buddy of mine was heading back to Ft. Mac yesterday, got as far as YEG before he was turned around.

CBC are saying that AC and WS are both flying unscheduled, empty aircraft up to YMM to help evacuate.

Thumbs up to both airlines for doing this. ^

Hope the people of Fort Mac stay safe. Looks pretty bad out there.

One of our company's employees is about to board an outbound flight.

I suspect AC could fill some 777HD's from YMM if they had the frame availability.

I doubt anybody other than emergency personnel are flying in right now - but plenty of people need to get out and not everyone has a full tank of gas. It is a very isolated place with limited options for refueling for several hundred miles.

Also on CBC this morning, they've got fuel tanker trucks driving up to Ft. Mac so that they can turn around, drive along the evacuation routes and refuel cars that have run out of gas.

Have to imagine the same will be true at YMM before long.

The fires in and around YMM seems to be burning their way out, but it's still a danger zone.

The noon flight YEG-YYZ tomorrow has been upguaged to a 333 tomorrow to handle the increased number of people wanting to get East.
... and the overnight is now a 77W but still oversold in the back.
.... and 3 x A321 on other YYZ flights

Wow - good on AC for finding that kind of extra lift on short notice.

Air Traffic Control has been suspended and all local employees evacuated. Remote Advisory (RAAS) is being performed by Peace River Radio. Many many NOTAMs in place.
