@24left

Beautiful shot as always. I am left pondering three things...
  1. Are you ever home?
  2. Do you even have a home?
  3. Do you ever meet a new SD or FA on AC15 or meet one that doesn't know every meal/drink preference you have?
EDIT: Received a PM suggesting this message might somehow be viewed as insulting (I suppose point #2?)...I sincerely hope not. I assure you I am rather direct when intending to insult someone!

Since @24left in conveniently (and unusually) offline, I will be cheeky and suggest On Occasion, Several and Rarely as answers to the above questions.

Since I'm about to head to Paris, I think I'm safely out of KitKat chucking range.

Did you get any Over-the-Wing photos/videos during/after landing?

(How dare I ask?)

Right during landing as per my photo here, but prior to hitting the ground, as they say

AC 15 YYZ-HKG December 10 2018

Over the Barents Sea

Sun is rising. I love how it brightens the rondelle

Over Buryatia, Russia

I was fascinated with the sensors on the wing and how the sun reflects off them

Although we left YYZ about 40 minutes late (no de-icing) and we made up time inflight, well HKIA ATC had other plans for us, as is often the case.

Of course we feel the aircraft turning multiple times and can see the change in arrival time and distance out, on the IFE.

Still, I liked the view below

And here we are, inbound to 7R at 14:52 local

And this is at 14:53, just prior to hitting the runway....well that plus a few bounces.

The 'sensors' are called vortex generators. It's a fancy name for a small vane-like piece of metal that serves to reenergize the thin layer of air that flows over the top surface of the wing, in what's called the boundary layer. Keeping that airflow close to the wing surface is critical for ensuring the airflow doesn't separate from the wing too soon, allowing for better lift and effectiveness of control surfaces on the aft edge of the wing itself. The devices themselves are very simple; they're not connected to anything beneath the wing skin. The aerodynamic theory behind their use is basic, but determining their optimal size, number, distribution and installation angles is remarkably complex - too much so for my brain.

This flight actually had a tailstrike on landing in HKG which resulted in AC16 being cancelled. I ended up taking the scenic route home to YYZ instead as a result.

@YVRtoYYZ

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??????

I was on THAT AC 15 flight and the entire discussion is here. Start at post 3636 and read all of it. I posted photos there too. (And yes, I am sad for the poor injured bird)
