Basic to Elite

I just learned the hard way that one does not go from Basic to Prestige in the year that you make the hurdle. So much for my 20K in the first 2 weeks of January...

That said, before I go any further, can anyone confirm if I were to go from Basic to Elite that I would get status immediatly ... or do I have to wait till 2004? The Aeroplan desk says I have to wait until 2004 but this does not seem to match what others on this forum have said.

Thanks for the help.

PS - What a stupid, non-competitive policy.

I can only speak for myself - a couple of years ago I made Elite around June and was given the Elite package and privileges at that time. I did not have to wait until the next year.

There is currently a discussion about that going on in a different thread... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/007940.html

It is my understanding that if you qualify for Elite by the end of October 03, you should receive your Elite status shortly thereafter and you will be Elite for the remainder of the year until the end of Feb 04. You will also have qualified for the next period Mar 04-Feb05.

Airbus is absolutely correct. If you hit Elite qualification level by mid-November they will send you the package immediately. Sounds like you've only got another 15,000 miles of flying to do!

Take note of airbus320's comment. Once you qualify for Elite this year, it's good until Feb 2005, so it's worth going for as quickly as possible.

And statistically speaking, JetCity should have it in a week and a half. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

A side question... If you qualify for E then later qualify for SE (in the same year), do you get uped as well?

Yes.

AC/AP updates their system every Sunday night and looks for new E and SE. Your package will go in the mail the following Friday. It will show on your boarding passes immediately.

Sorry, they don't check for new P each week.
