AIFs
Code:
MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT ON AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT FEES |
Thank you, for the information.
I did not see the AIFs (paid at the airport) for YVR or YUL. In addition, I did not see the information for YYZ. |
Just hypothetically speaking http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif, if one were undercharged AIF on a ticket what consequences would this have for the airline? How do the airports know what $$ to collect from the airlines for AIFs?
|
FGII, I see that. This was a download from the Galileo site for TAs and I just slapped it in here without looking. Very strange.

Does anyone know why YVR doesn't 'bury' the AIF in the cost of the ticket?
I've heard they don't because the airlines don't want to administer it. Well, I've also heard (not seen for myself) that other CDN airports such as YYC include the cost in the ticket. Having said that, aren't all airlines going out of YYC collecting the fees on somone else's behalf? If so - then why not at YVR? This could be much less aggravating. Going through the US departure run-around every week at YVR: 1) optionally buy AIF ticket at machine 2) check in 3) fill out the US immigration card 4) show your boarding pass and completed immigration card to some guard 5) schlep your bags through duty free store trying not to break anything 6) line up with US Immigration 7) line up with US Customs 7a) slim chance to get pulled aside at this point by the US for them to do a random search of all baggage/carry on 8) throw your bags on the belt 9) line up in a sometimes-horrendous line to buy your AIF ticket if you didn't see/know about the machine in step 1 10) line up to show proof of AIF payment and boarding pass check 11) go through security 12) ahhhhh, the Maple Leaf Lounge Yep...I'm getting a bit off point here and I'm venting since I do this weekly. But including the AIF in the ticket would make this all a wee bit easier. Well, that's my 2 cents worth. |

YOWKid, I've heard the same thing. If the airport authorities are willing to 'work' with the airlines and allow them some input into the airport developements, the airlines will collect the fee as part of the ticket. Apparently YUL and YVR won't / don't agree with this and as such have to collect the fees on their own.
Just what I've heard. |
I heard it had something to do with airlines wanting representation on the boards of the authorities and YVR was not willing to give them any.
|
I'm sure I've heard that YUL has worked it out and the $15 AIF will soon be included in the ticket price.
|
And why is it that we have to pay GST on top of these fees? Airport "improvement" is hardly a service, IMHO. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
