Redeeming Miles for YVR to SGN

I am planning to redeem my miles on Aeroplan for the first time.
I want to redeem my miles for a business class ticket from YVR to SGN.

The dates for departures are March 24 or 25, return on April 2 or 3.

I want to avoid the carrier surcharge (aka scamcharges) as much as possible.

1. What are my options?

2. Should I wait for EVA business class availability on their Boeing 747-400,14 days out?

ANA, United, Air China, and EVA, pretty much.
The business class on EVA's 747's are not fully flat - you're better off flying TPE-SFO or LAX which has their reverse herringbone business class.

I rather sit on that than the 747-400 from YVR.

I did this booking earlier in 2015.

AC YVR-ICN
OZ ICN-SGN

I just ate the YQ. I'd rather pay it and be confirmed in business than deal with the stress of a trip that might fall apart sitting in economy waiting for space that may or may not open.

The AC 787 pods are pretty comfortable if it helps you make your decision. Much nicer than the old XM products.

I did this trip from YVR in November and flew YVR-LAX-HAN (SGN was available as well) I flew OZ F on the A380 in their suites and was well worth the connection and the surcharge wasnt too bad, definitely worth consideration.

I checked out the route YVR-LAX-SGN, but no availability for the 00:30 out of LAX on March 25. How often or when do Asiana open up their business seats for rewards?

I went there in 2015 and routed through Hong Kong. Charges were reasonable.

Since you're SE, you can probably book YVR-HKG YQ-free, then HKG-SGN onwards

I'd book it first if you can, and really switch to BR J T-14 via SEA/LAX/SFO if you really want to (may not save much YQ)

BR 747 J sucks anyway

I had booked July for Nov departure, but don't have specific detail on when they load inventory

They have typically (last year) opened them up well in advance, usually up to 4 business seats. I have no experience with them opening seats at the last minute. If you're looking for March (two months from now), they've probably been spoken for.
