AC has a sale every day now, trying to put bums in seats!

Booked an unplanned YVR flight on Saturday 30% off sale and the seat map was, well pretty empty one week before Christmas?

Here in Alberta people are unemployed, dying, broke, so not much travel!

... and yet there is another thread on this page that says Western Canada flights are so full that one cannot change Flex or even Latitude tickets

I believe this is normal for December.

Yes, loads are always down the week before Xmas as business travel shuts down for the holidays. Hotel rates usually fall this week too.

Depends where you are going too! Try to get from PHX to YQF on I the 29th, 30th or 31st :P. Glad I have a latitude flight pass!

Or from YVR - PHX on Dec. 20th.

Capacity is way down compared to last year on YYC-YYZ, IIRC (and I may not!). So while I don't pay much attention to load factors within Western Canada, I see that getting from YYC to the east has way less capacity. If you think that the crap economy here in YYC isn't going to impact AC or WS you are dreaming. Things are bad at the moment, and not going to get better any time soon. Thank goodness I am not in oil and gas.

US customers also pay in US dollars, further improving profits.

Fuel is purchased in USD equivalent.
Airplanes are purchased in USD.
Airplane parts are purchased in USD equivalent.
Landing/ground handling fees in US paid for in USD.

I'm not sure the balance between US customer revenue vs. exchange rates and major expenses paid for in USD or a value there of leads to improved profits.

Totally agree, plus US fares usually match Canadian fares with the currency exchange.
