I was very surprised to see a devaluation of the AE Distinction program after being launched about 2 yrs ago (2013 right?). I sense that something is not going to well at AE.

That's a good point. Something they should provide.

But providing real enhancement is something ae is weak on.

I've used it for a discount on a AP redemption to Cancun. Came in at less than classic fare.

I don't care about losing the Distinction flights...but it shows that even this program is subject to "enhancements". Eventually it will be more useless than it is.

Ha, that's one way to put it.

I have no idea what a Distinction Bonus is and what the Air Canada Getaway Bonus is!

As a Distinction member, earn up to 1,500 bonus miles for every eligible roundtrip you fly with Air Canada and Air Canada rouge that includes a Saturday night stay*.
As a business traveller this never really applied to me, so I don't think I'd miss it if it went, since there are only a few INT'L destinations, although it does remind me to check back for a 10-day trip to SFO I just did...

The SPG one doesn't bother me either, as I always book through SPG (and collect their points) to ensure I get my night and point qualifications.

At least they're honest and state that "others will no longer be available", instead of just claiming these to be enhancements. As soon as I saw that key word in the sentence, I shuddered a bit.

All in all, not bad for their 2016 program - although I didn't use any of it (or care, really) this year.

Distinction bonus is additional non-status points for return itineraries. How many points depends on your tier. Higher tiers, more points. Nice little addition but discriminates against one way itineraries. For a variety of reasons, I often book two one ways rather than a return.

I got this last week, what a yawn.

Wow, no takers for the distiction flights? Maybe the departure being a Wednesday during march break might not have been all that appealing?

AP should just get rid of the Distinction program altogether.
It's the most useless loyalty program I've seen in my life.
