Uhh, the level of security depends on the needs.

Sure, in this country, which is to Warrens point.
Some countries automatically provide security of some sort based on cabinet or government position.
We are fortunate to live somewhere that a deputy PM and cabinet minister can travel freely without a security detail.

Regardless of how any of us feel about Harper or Freeland, I'm glad we live in a country where our top politicians can still feel comfortable travelling on their own.

as long as they don’t put their personal item under the wrong seat…

too soon?

National-level politicians fly a lot and get annoyed by all the same bad behaviours the rest of us regulars do. I don't see that being a problem.

Not anymore. The issue is explained here. Sadly, we pay those increased costs.

These may sound like big #'s but to keep it in perspective the US Secret Service budget is $2.23 BILLION, and that doesn't include the cost of local + state law enforcement resources that are deployed anytime the President, Vice-President or anyone else of significance in the government goes ANYWHERE. I don't think you'd find any Cabinet Secretaries or other Sr. Officials flying United, AA or Delta, but we see pretty much everyone but JT flying AC or WS all the time.

While I agree things are deteriorating rapidly here, I'd much rather be a politician in Canada than the Excited States!

We have wandered very far from the subject of Canadian celebrity sightings. Please note that the appropriate venue for a discussion on government spending on MP protection, threats to MPs, etc, is the OMNI/PR forum. Further posts in that vein will be deleted.

Back on topic...

Liona Boyd was on AC1719 yesterday SJU-YYZ. The wife was sitting beside her and helped her set up the free rouge wifi (well, jr actually did most of the work when she passed the phone up to him to fix) and recognized her name. Had to google her when she went to the lav to confirm she was actually famous.

I would never refer to a mayor of a city as a celebrity.
