Why strangely? Why would he not be in the back? He's not rich, has no real source of income...

Pat Quinn in Y on ACs YVR-LAX a while back. Ducks played the night before IIRC.

a4racer Jan 17, 2007 7:09 am

My brushes with "celebrity"...

...a few years back during her "heyday", Janet Reno on a YVR to YYZ flight, she was really nice. I did a double take when I saw her (wasn't sure if it was her, or Will Ferrell playing her from SNL, hahaha), and she smiled. I went over and said "hi", and she was absolutely gracious and nice.

Justin Trudeau on a Dash 8 from YYZ to YXU with his wife (Sophie?). He was wearing the biggest cowboy hat I've ever seen. That was this past November...he was in YXU to stump for the local Lib candidate in the by-election we had in November.

Wasn't he host of a Reach for the Top type show way back in the early 80s, pre-Much Music?

Sat directly next to Montie and his son at the Air Canada Centre last night, for the Raptors - Cavs game.
Figured all those AC associations is just as good as seeing someone on a flight. :D

Isn't he in favour of the rest of us reducing our "carbon footprint" by flying less, or at least in Y?

On AC 8966 YOW-YUL, Mon morning, I sat in front of The Amazing Kreskin.

Terry David Mulligan fell in love with CKUA, the Alberta public radio system several years ago, and he has a show on that network every Saturday afternoon. It's THE best station on the planet. You can listen to his show and other shows at www.ckua.com

Peter Mansbridge T1 MLL as we speak.

Captain Canuck May 7, 2007 10:51 am

Peter must be a FF as well. I was on a flight from YOW-YYZ with him last Tuesday.

YLU FF May 7, 2007 11:24 am

Kelly Rowan of "The O.C." fame sitting one seat behind me on AC856 (YYZ-LHR) May 2nd. She was with a SO...I recognized him but still have been unable to place him. Any ideas?

Mansbridge actually has the airline business to thank for his current revered status.

Apparently he was a young baggage handler at Churchill (YYQ) - virtually no career focus and a source of great concern for his parents. One day he was asked to call a flight because someone hadn't turned up for work. As one passenger boarded the plane (a CBC employee as it turned out) he asked Mansbridge if he'd ever considered a career in radio. Mansbridge was flattered and intrigued, and this soon turned into his first position with CBC - in Churchill.

Mansbridge eventually asked his recruiter what special talent he had shown during the brief flight announcement.

The answer, as PM tells it, was "None in particular - we'd been trying to find someone for that job for over six months".

pilotboy1985YYC May 7, 2007 11:32 pm

Sat beside the band Great big Sea on a flight from yyz-yyt. They were stuck up, thought they own'd the plane. during flight Allan Doyle got too cramped, spoke with the flight attendant, said " do you know who I am" and the entire band got bumped to Business class. I was glad to get them away from me!

ThirtyOne May 11, 2007 5:26 pm

Just sat across the aisle from Jim Flaherty on a YOW-YYZ flight in J. Spent the whole flight going over his notecards for a speech.

Not AC, but related, since immediately after landing at YYZ I connected on NWA on a flight to DTW and saw actor Peter Fonda in the F cabin with me. Seemed like a nice guy, treated the crew well, and made a point of thanking the pilots for a good ride as he was disembarking.

YULbigfoot Jun 3, 2007 4:11 pm

This one is way way off but it was an AC codeshare...

Pussycat Dolls at SVO (No celeb treatment there) waiting for the early flight to FRA. Wasnt sure if I was dreaming when I turned around and saw them standing behind me at passport control... Seemed very down to earth

makin'miles Jun 3, 2007 7:57 pm

Kevin Lowe on my YYZ-YOW tonight, and Susan Ormiston with two tykes in tow at the YYZ MLL, enroute to Paris via YUL.

NordsFan Jun 20, 2007 5:01 pm

20june

In YUL INT MLL: Dr. Marc Garneau, astronaut (AC864 to LHR) + former Québec premier Pierre-Marc Johnson (AC870 to CDG).

Earlier today, on AC8721 YQB-YUL, Robert Reich, Secretary of Labor (sic) in the Clinton Administration; Bill Clinton was also in YQB today but was not flying on QK ! :D

YOWkid Jun 20, 2007 11:01 pm

What is Garneau doing now?

Not sure, he was at the Canadian Space Agency for a while in some capacity and then he went on to be president of some university ( U of O ?).

Also aboard AC870 last night: former president of Sénégal and current Secretary-General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie , Abdou Diouf along with former Delegate General of Québec in Paris and current Administrator of the OIF, Clément Duhaime.

Mr. Diouf was escorted onboard the plane at YUL by some DFAIT protocol guys and a Mountie acting as protective detail. Diouf is a VERY tall man, close to 7' !

YOWkid Jun 21, 2007 5:38 am

He left in 2005 to run for Martin in the federal election and lost.

I think you're right that he's a Chancellor of a Canadian university but that's not a full time job.

But anyway.

If he's a President that sure is a full time job. If he's a Chancellor, he doesn't get paid. He became Chancellor of Carleton in 2003.
