Tango Enhancement?

I was just booking a tango ticket YQR-YYC-YEG and noticed the website told me:

"Same-day standby at the airport is available: on flights between Toronto and Montreal or Ottawa, on flights between Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, as well as on flights between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and LaGuardia (LGA), John F. Kennedy (JFK) or Newark (EWR) airports (connecting flights excluded)."

I've never seen this before. Free standby on flex fares in the western triangle is fairly new, so I'm surprised to see it extended to tango. Is this new, or did I just miss it?

Please see if it works :)

It's not supposed to be on that fare.

Its been informal practice for as long as I can remember (also on the YVR-YYJ/YCD routes). But as part of an overall general clean-up of all of the AC policies/procedures, sounds like they've formalized it.

um...?

Like most, I had to laugh when I saw the words "Tango" and "Enhancement", but if this is legit, please post an update.

Was in YYC last week and someone was trying to do a standby but was not allowed as they were on a Tango fare.

Also, last year I tried to get on an earlier flight from YYJ-YVR on a Flex fare, but only the SDC was available, no standby.

Seems to be allowed now (at least from YYZ to NYC) according to this link:

Same goes for the western triangle. Tango is now allowed same day standby. I am guessing thus just took effect July 7th as there is a comment about the change of same day change fee.

Same day change fee for Tango domestic fare is now $100! That's another enhancement alright.

Well, it does help enhance AC's bottom line so from their P.O.V. it's all good.

I suspect it's a rarely used thing so they can offer it in lieu of the SDC fee changes? (I don't know if it's increased but from what I read above I am inferring it has?) Why else is AC not offering it on the Rapidair routes in Central Canada?

E.g. give us something good that's rarely used but also enhance something (give us something else worse?)

And to the comment above, of course...all business decisions are there to maximize the bottom line! :)

What was the fee before? I can't tell if it's gone up or down with your use of the word "enhancement" :p

I think the fee used to be $75 since if you booked before July 7th, that is what you pay. SDC is also good for Rapidair routes.

Previously it was $75. And the word 'enhancement' shall mean downgrade from consumers' perspective when used in context with AC.

Honestly I think this makes buying Tango the easiest decision for the Western triangle. Previously I'd only buy Flex because I want the option to standby early and get my seat (somewhat harder to do for Rapidair in the summer), but now I can just buy Tango.

This is correct - Tango now receives same day standby on flights between the Eastern Triangle (YUL/YOW/YTO), Western Triangle (YVR/YEG/YYC), and Toronto to New York (YTO/NYC). This was done as part of a fare/policy simplification process.

Thanks for the affirmation. Now I just hope the agents get the briefing because as recent as last month I had to prove my M-fare was valid.
