Delhi pricing premium economy/economy
I have been watching the pricing of the new AC Delhi route. Initially, the economy pricing was quite low (around $1450) but it has gone up to about $1750. Premium economy was high at $2750 but has gone down to $2400. AC is now advertising the $1750 economy as its best rate for the Delhi flight. I doubt that that is the case and it is not the best rate that they have advertised. I would prefer the premium economy, mostly for the leg room (6 foot 2 inches in economy is almost a death wish!). I am now in a position that I can book the flights so I would appreciate any thoughts that you might have for what I can expect for the future pricing on this route (my wife and I would fly out to Delhi on the 15th November and return the 1st December).
While I prefer the AC routing from Halifax, I am considering Lufthansa flights. There are more stops but the prices on Expedia are quite a bit lower and the 330s offer two seats together rather than the 3/3/3 in economy on AC. Seat assignment fees will narrow the pricing gap but is there something else that I am missing from the Expedia low pricing of these routes through Germany (Lufthansa doesn't offer these prices on their site)? |
I haven't flown AC Y+, but $2400 is an excellent price. To put it in perspective, AF and BA were charging $3k for their Y+ on this route as recently as last year, so sub $3k is good, and sub $2.5k is excellent.
At $650 round trip more than Y, it's well worth it for that stage length as prices go. Granted, that depends on how much you value the additional comfort. I would avoid connecting in the EU. Connection times can be pretty long depending on the options available. Have you looked at UA? They're pretty reasonable for one-stops. |
Y+ and PY are two very different products.

if you are not buying premium economy, do not go on the 787, in Y its horrific, it will make Rouge look comfortable. Do a connection and fly another way.
Yup. Never again. Worst longhaul Y seats in the world. Brilliant strategy by AC to make Y so miserable people will buy up. |
PY is a good product, flew in it YVR-ICN and for $700 fare difference on a looong haul flight like YYZ-DEL it's a no-brainer. Better seat, better food, and better service.

My friend that does that route often buys J tickets from consolidators. usually he ends up on AI and says the J product on the 787's is decent for the price. |

Hard product - Decent, don't like the pair seating but the space/size/room is great!!!! Soft product - (service, food, towels, booze, etc). Not good compared to others. |

I cannot comment on AC 787 Y as I have only been on J. Re PY there is less competition on this route. AC PY YYZ-NRT is $1900 so $2500 does not look to be that good a deal. LH/AC in PY is $2300 for your dates as is Delta. All AC is $2400. 9W is $3128 in J which is a very good deal if you can increase your budget from $2400 for PY to $3128 in J. Connect in YYZ and Brussels. |
I was on the CDG to YUL flight. I don't see much of a difference between AC's PY seating and the bulk head or exit row seating. The PY people got the same snack as we did except their boxed snack was served on a plate. We got wine in a bottle while theirs was served in a glass with a smile.

Conversely as someone who values money more than a bit of extra comfort. I'll take the 787 Y and with status I'll take an exit/bulkhead row. IF you don't have status, you can just pay up for that seat but it's far less money than PY.

The seats are wider and have more recline than a preferred seat (pitch may be the same though). I'm sure someone who's actually flown it can tell you the full list of differences, but it's definitely not the same as a preferred seat. |
Just a little reminder
The following threads are already full of trip reports, seating details and preferences, meal service details, including photos. - Planning for the launch of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner service - FAQ: Air Canada New meal offerings for International Business Class Customers - Air Canada plans to refurbish 18 of its 777 Also, as mentioned, repeatedly, Premium Economy seating on aircraft such as the 787 is not the same as "Preferred Seating" in the Economy sections of other aircraft. (Not sure why there is still constant confusion) |
ALSO...just a heads up PY on the 777 is different from the 787. I'm not sure what's under the seats on the 787 but I hated the fact there was no foot space under the seat on the 777, only the footrest.
