Aeroplan BAD Sale on select Gift Card redemptions (UP to 10,000 miles saving)

Just got this in email (bolding mine)

Until July 8th
Save UP to 10,000 miles when you redeem for SELECT Home Hardware, AMEX, Shop.ca and Hudson's Bay gift cards

https://www4.aeroplan.com/mrch/great...?cid=001301894

How bad is the sale?
$500 AMEX card is now 67K miles instead of 69K - saving 2000
*From June 8 to July 8, 2015! Redeem for a American Express CAN$500 Gift Card for only 67,000 miles! Regularly 69,000 miles.

Effectively values AP miles at $0.0075 per mile. That's a great deal (for AP).

It's insulting to even call that a sale.

So Aeroplan admits that it charges C$1340 (or C$1005 during a different presently-running so-called "sale" to transfer points into a friend's account, which are worth only C$500 in the first place!

The sale price for the gift cards should be the normal price, and when they have a sale going on, they should discount them by another few thousand miles.

I don't blame them for making it like that though. IMO it's the scammers who would register like 20 different accounts for a promo, then funnel all their points into 1 account that make this impossible for aeroplan to offer a reasonable transfer rate.
