This is probably the "best" thread to post this, I suppose.
I'm not really sure what to make of this (i.e. normal or not).
Was on a delayed late-night/early morning AC Express/Jazz Q400 flight last week, and a pair of seats (4A and 4C) had a small sign placed on them that said the seats were inoperable. One guy got told off by one of the FAs before take-off for trying to move and sit there.
After a quick drink services, the FAs remove the sign, and both sit down there for the rest of the flight and chat. Some people had walk up to the front of the plane and poke them for water mid flight, instead of it being offered as usual.

That sign is often placed on them.
One side of the sign says "INOPERATIVE DO NOT USE". The other side says "CREW ONLY".

"2014-11-15 (Saturday), 1638 CST, YXE" has photos of an inoperative cow.
I had permission to sit there

An AC FA in J who insisted that the liqueur is actually called "Grand Mariner".
And repeated that name it to each PAX as the cheese and booze moved its way down the aisle. And no, this wasn't a flight to/from SEA.

If if you asked for the washroom in the US, you'd get a similar stare.

From Wikipedia:
It quickly became a popular mixed drink within Canada where over 350 million Caesars are consumed annually and it has inspired numerous variants. However, the drink remains virtually unknown elsewhere.
That's an awful lot of Ceasar cocktails.

In 1992 I was on a AC flight from YWG - YYZ listening to my portable CD player (for those younger on the board this was new tech back then).
I had already taken about 20 trips with it, but this one was about to be different....
I was told by the FA / SD that I had to put it away and could not use it (and she rushed over almost in a run when she saw it) because.... and I quote.....
"The Laser in the CD player interferes with the planes navigation and you could crash the plane"
