Why did I get a partial refund for missing my flight?

Ok, total  for me, hoping you folks can help.

As we all know, I missed my YVR SEA last night :D So, an agent gives me a new ticket last night (bless her soul, she was working another flight). So w/e, grab my ticket and head back to the hotel (do you know how painful it is trying to LEAVE the airport at night at YVR once youve cleared security? I spent an hour trying to get out! - :td:) And yes, by that point I was aware of my surroundings :D

Before anyone goes...well what if they mapped you to a different fare class as part of the exchange? It didn't happen, i'm looking on ac.com with my PNR.

I bought the B fare months ago (3 months ago), so I don't think the fare went down. It could have, there were 7 people on my flight...

So, personal info removed, here's proof!. Anyone know why I got this partial refund? I mean it makes no difference to me as its a corporate card, but still, why not just take my money and run?

Give a day or two - AC will read this and retract the refund.

LOL, rereading this though. It doesn't seem like I got a refund for the base fare, just taxes? Why would that change? I'm still going to Seattle...:confused:

I'll put my bet in at 19 hours from now.

Maybe the agent was able to actually "rebook" you and you were put into M class or something?

I had thought that. Nope, I was still in B.

On a side note, the ramp guy today was awesome. Super cheerful, very nice to the GA. I said i'd like to compliment his work, he said he'll get a $2 gift card and would rather lay low. Talk about a terrible working culture.

Then a cheaper B basis?

Yeah but don't fares usually go up. Also, if you look at my receipt, it says

FARE/TARIF: 0.00
TAX/TAXE: 54.89 RC
7.13 CA
28.00 SQ

So there was no fare change, just a tax change. But WHY? I mean it's not like i'm suddenly going to Calgary instead of SEA. Oh wait, where am I again? :D:D

Perhaps the agent canceled and repurchased your ticket so you received the taxes back  but a B fare would get a full refund, no?

Latitude fares are fully refundable, and I suspect the difference between the HST and the GST was refunded. You were now departing from YVR instead of YYZ.

Ok, sorry, let me explain.

My B fare was YYZ YVR SEA. At YVR I didn't catch my flight (:p), so I flew today instead. How does that affect HST/GST? I'm still doing YVR SEA as my second leg...

You see? You just answered yourself without knowing it.

You WERE departing from YYZ on your previous itinerary, so HST was charged on the ticket. After you missed your flight in YVR, and being on a B fare which is totally refundable, you were rebooked to depart from YVR where only GST was charged. You got the difference in taxes back.

It's a small glitch, so don't be surprised if AC back charges you.
