Is it possible to apply other Star Alliance airlines credit cards(other than AC)

The only reason I still collect Aeroplan miles is because I use CIBC aeroplan credit card, and I do collect a few miles a year. I have thought about switching to other * FF programs since aeroplan made some changes in recent years. So I am wondering if I am able to apply other Star Alliance members' credit cards in other countries, like Asiana or ANA in the U.S.. Or are there any Star Alliance members' credit cards available in Canadian market?

Apart from aeroplan cards, these are the only airline credit cards available to Canadian residents AFAIK:

MBNA Alaskan Airlines
RBC British Airways
RBC Cathay Pacific

The Amex membership rewards program points can be transferred to Aeroplan or BA (and probably others through various schemes with varying efficiency) and their SPG cards starpoints can also be transferred to various airlines (about 30 at various ratios https://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefe...les?terms=true)

That's about the end of my knowledge on this topic.

With a bit of work you can get a Chase United credit card, but its not much good unless you spend a lot of $$$ in the USA as your statements will need to be paid in USD.

Better to get SPG AMEX where you can transfer the points into most major airlines. Plus when you transfer 20K points you get a 5K top up bonus for a total of 25K

The SPG AMEX currently comes with a 20K sign up bonus and $120 annual fee.

Here are their airline partners and transfer ratios:

Aeromexico Club Premier 1:1
Aeroplan/Air Canada 1:1
Air Berlin 1:1
Air China Companion 1:1
Air New Zealand & Air Points 65:1
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan 1:1
Alitalia MileMiglia 1:1
All Nippon Airways (ANA) Mileage Club 1:1
American Airlines AAdvantage 1:1
Asia Miles 1:1
Asiana Airlines 1:1
British Airways Executive Club 1:1
China Eastern Airlines 1:1
China Southern Airlines Sky Pearl Club 1:1
Delta Air Lines SkyMiles 1:1
Emirates Skywards 1:1
Etihad Airways 1:1
Flying Blue 1:1
Gol Smiles 2:1
Hainan Airlines 1:1
Hawaiian Airlines 1:1
Japan Airlines (JAL) Mileage Bank 1:1
LAN Airlines LANPASS Kms 1:1:5
Miles and More 1:1
Qatar Airways 1:1
Saudi Arabian Airlines 1:1
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer 1:1
Thai Airways International Royal Orchid Plus 1:1
US Airways Dividend Miles 1:1
United Mileage Plus 2:1
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club 1:1
Virgin Australia 1:1

How is this possible? I thought you needed a US Social Security Number to get a US credit card.

This is exactly what I would do. But, what makes Asiana/ANA or other *A FF program better than Aeroplan? I'm not questioning your decision, I genuinely would like to know. I'm assuming you did your research and concluded other programs may fit your needs better?

Are you sure SPG points earned with this version of the Amex card can be converted to airline miles? I thought there was a restriction and only hotel-stay-earned points could be converted?

Note that Amex MembershipRewards points can also be converted into SPG points (though not at a very good rate). However, I believe these points also cannot be subsequently converted into airline miles.

Once Amex deposits the points from the card into your SPG account, SPG is SPG and you can do whatever you like with your points. There's no distinction between points earned from credit card vs. stays.

I converted my SPG AMEX-earned points to AE with no issue, earning the conversion bonus that AE had at the time. In addition, I actually purchased a few points (SPG was having a points purchase sale as well) to bump me up to the next AE conversion bonus level. I haven't stayed at a SPG property in years.

Even better when you refer your spouse for another 10k + 20k for her.
