5 hr + delay in AC15 Jan 13

Boarding. On time. Engine generator malfunction. Return to gate one hour later.

New departure 2pm. (We won't make announcements. Just show up at the gate). Ok then. Thanks for the lovely service. Meanwhile received a 10 percent voucher. YEAH!!!

Reboards same plane at 2pm

SAME CREW. Alright. Let's go.

2:45. Expert flyer shows Further delay due to IFS re crew.

3pm. Captain announces what I already knew from EF. Says crew will be here in 8 minutes.

Who knows when this flight will take off but needless to say, connections are shot.

They had three hours to re crew this flight. why? Why? Why?

Thanks for respecting your customers.

And this on a flagship route YYZ-HKG. Shameful ops planning. Thanks Ben S.

I'm happy to take the 10% voucher off your hands if you don't need it

You'll probably be getting some of the youngest crew to ever fly the route since they have to round up 15 FAs on reserve (usually the most junior get forced onto reserve).

They used to give 20 percent. That's more appropriate for a 2 stage 5 hr delay. Or enough points for me to get back to HKG for the meeting I can't make.

They only replaced some of the IFS crew. Weird. My regular FA stayed on. She isn't young but very nice and I keep getting her almost every time I fly this route.

I know Pilots have different time out rules than FAs. Also, they can ask Pilots/FAs to go over if they can (or they used to before 2014...not sure if that changed recently in Canada).

Sounds like it was close, then discussed, some said yes, others said no then they had to get new crews. If they said 8 minutes at 2:45, one has to assume they had been called in at 2:00.

Probably. Frustrating for passengers as the plane was actually fixed by 1pm...

I wouldn't want to run an airline ops. But then I don't get paid the big bucks to do so.

Anyway. Seems we are on our way now. 3:15

I am surprised that ac16 jan 14 shows on time. Do they keep an extra plane at HKG?

As I understand it from Andrew in a post a while back, the downline flight status gets updated upon aircraft Wheels Up.

I'm the exact opposite of you, I'd love to run airline ops. Hearing about problems like this and finding unique and fast ways to solve them is what I really enjoy.

yes, I've noticed this with many delayed flights! They don't post the delay until the inbound is wheels up.

Every 2 weeks or so a 777 rotates in/out of Singapore for maintenance. It is possible AC16's plane is flying in empty from SIN, where your plane from 15 will then fly HKG-SIN.

While totally possible! The AC16 flight today just posted a 5 hour delay after wheels up. It's visible now.

One data point, this was not the case on my last IRROP from YUL to YYZ.

My flight leaving YUL was showing as delayed on aircanada.com flight status and at the gate, with the delay ever increasing. The inbound was still at the gate...it just kept on getting pushed every 15 minutes or so.

Unless i'm not understanding your/ChrisA330 post...

We're you looking at the right date?

No - you're not misunderstanding...not sure why it would be different in your case.
