Would the concierge help in this case?
My Grandfather is heading out to YVR (from YYZ) on an award ticket. He's going via YYC since there are no award seat on the direct flights.
As a SE, can I request the concierge in YYC to meet him upon arrival and get him to the right gate? Better yet, I wonder whether I could get the YYZ concierge to put him on the direct flight but how to find him is another matter. (He won't understand the standby thing that we all do so I won't bother telling him to attempt it) He's 80+ years old and doesn't travel much. Thanks in advance for any advice. |
Empress: I witnessed the concierge in LAX deliver a package for an SE. They should be able to help with people.
I am sure that a concierge could help you in YYC. Perhaps an SE in YYC could suggest the name of a outstanding conciege in YYC... |
Just ask for a wheelchair for him. Since he will be by himself, someone has to push him to the right gate. Tell them that he can walk but cannot tolerate the physical endurance for more than a few minutes. They should be able to take care of him.

Empress, You will have no problem whatsoever. If you are lucky "Cynthia" will be on duty. Good Luck. Biggles. |
Thanks. I'll email the YYC concierge few days in advance.
Should I email YYZ and see whether they could get him on the direct flight if there's space? It would be absolutely great if they can do that. |
Empress, Contact YYZ. They will look after your Grandfather. When spending time in the YYZ lounge I have seen similar situations where the concierge has brought in elderly relatives of an S.E. travelling alone. They great them on the incoming flight, take them to the lounge and then escort them to the flight when it is time to board. In my opinion the concierge service is the best benefit of S.E. Biggles |
Thanks Biggles. That sonds very nice.
He'll be departing from YYZ so I am not sure how they can recognize him. Maybe I should give him a FT tag and put it around his neck. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |
I should hope that the concierge limits their services to the SE, not the beneficiary of the SE.
It is thinsg like this taht will keep Super-Prestige the next lowly teir. At he rate I am going WJ will get lots more revenue since S-P perks are useless, as are aero-pesos. [This message has been edited by I'llMissCP (edited 09-06-2002).] |
I have talked to concierges about this. They will help out others (including AC Elites, other Star Gold) even though priority is SEs. I see them as great ambassadors for AC. I always get a smile on my face or smoke stops coming out of my ears when a concierge appears.
There may be some slackers in the group but I haven't met any. I have had nothing but good experiences with them. |

My experience with the YYC concierge has been very positive. Also (in LHR) they were happy to look out for my non-SE daughter when I wasn;t sure if we'd both be checking in at the same time. I can't see that you'll have any problem. The concierges are mind-bogglingly helpful -- as well as being congenial.

My understanding is that the concierge service is for SE (all eligible flights), and for all nonSE - flying overseas international business class flights. In the latter scenario, I have never seen a concierge agent, when flying to Europe or the Carribean.

You don't have to have any status with an airline for them to help an elderly or infirm person. just request a "Meet & Greet" service along with a wheelchair and they will be well looked after.
I have requested this service for my parents (my father has difficulty walking) on any number of airlines (even the budget ones) and they have been delighted with the service they have recieved. At Heathrow they were met at the door of the plane and wheeled through customs, and baggage claim and taken all the way to the car park where they had left their car. Stewart. |
I e-mailed the Concierge in LHR to ask if my partner could wait in the AC Arrivals lounge as I was on a flight ariving 2 hours after her flight, They paged her upon arrival and escorted her to the lounge. Great service and they were pleased to do this for me. Your father should have no problem if dealing with the concierge.

All taken care of. Excellent service by the concierge. He took him all the way onboard in YYZ. Then another agent met him at the gate in YYC (and then one of the flight attendants on his flight came out and took him to the MLL! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif). Same for YVR, an agent met him at the gate and took him all the way to the baggage claim area.
Well done AC. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif I am super impressed. [This message has been edited by Empress (edited 10-01-2002).] |
