That is exactly what I had in mind too... Senator lounges are likely a revenue source for LH from billing all the *G customers using it.

But I agree regarding the pass and CC holders, they should only be given access to the inferior lounge, should there be two.

I read similar thoughts to these quite often around here. Not picking on you particularly, Cow, but I can't for the life of my grasp why a place like FT -- where there's generally a strong understanding of airline practices and overall exposure to different airline strategies around the world -- would expect a J lounge to be better than a *G lounge.

I totally agree with what @zeer0 and @jasdou mention below with regards to the LH's way of doing things:

I really don't see why it would be different at AC. AC already employs a status-first mentality in various aspects of their customer experience... meal priority and concierge access come to mind.

Why would the MLL be any different?

Ok I must be missing something.

Over 200 LH Senator lounge visits as *G and never been charged for entry when traveling in C or in the back.

I think the meaning is that LH bills the airline whose FF status program you are using to access the lounge. But I suspect you know that.

Indeed, that was my point and I thought it was obvious that the FF's airline was footing the bill, not the passenger himself.

Right, ok. LH bills the respective *G airlines of their members who use the Senator Lounges.

I had a FOTSG brain fart on that one.

Close, but acceptable.

The official acronym was first used by YOWGary to simplify my "Fly Once To See Grandma" term.

As for champagne, I would not expect it in the Domestic or Transborder MLLs, but I hope one day it would be made available in all international MLLs.

As for LH *G Senator Lounges, I don't think their food spread is "amazing", but certainly not bad... although after all these years I still don't understand the spread sometimes. I know it's an European thing.

However, someone still needs to explain to me the foot long wieners they have but only with six inch buns. At least when AC had their wieners and buns out for NHL playoff nights for the local team, they were proportional to each other!

I'll take any Senator Lounge at any LH station in Germany (and a few overseas) over any MLL in Canada any day of the week. While LH's food offerings are not necessarily write-home material, the overall experience is significantly more enjoyable. Senator Lounges are more spacious, more abundant, more elegant, and (IMO) offer more interesting food, especially for breakfast.

The one MLL that can come close to competing IME is FRA, but even there, I prefer Senator Lounges because they have Bircher Müsli. You'd figure AC would try to cater to local tastes, but no...

Well, the FRA MLL does offer pretzels and weissbier! It is also my favorite MLL network-wise. Last time I was in FRA, I visited both the MLL and one Senator lounge and would have a hard time saying which one I prefered. Maybe the MLL by a hair because of the donut.

I do look forward to the FRA MLL despite the LH choices.

I find the short lunch spread to be good, but anything after that becomes a bit dismal... especially when 877 is the only flight remaining, but that's to be expected I guess.

Local tastes ? We don't get local tastes in MLL in Canada so why should the Germans get their local tastes?

You are comparing apples with oranges.

the ANA NRT/HND "J" lounge you are referring to is their equivalent of an "International" MLL. The offerings in "domestic" ANA J lounges is pretty abysmal even by United Club or domestic MLL standards - no choice of pickles or other food, just salty soya snacks in little packets.

I do like the beer dispensing machines though.
