aeroplan estore - buying gift cards / method of payment?

Purchases made through estore using a store gift card are not eligible for miles, right? I cannot find this anywhere, but I assume it would be the case.

EDIT: Also, are all gift cards purchases automatically ineligible for aeroplan miles?

Anecdotally, it depends on the merchant.
Shop.ca: absolutely not
Banana Republic: often yes, but not always
Others: YMMV

Oh, I read that wrong. I thought you meant buying gift cards.

If you pay with a gift card, miles are earned just fine.

OK, what about buying gift cards? are ALL gift card purchases ineligible for earning miles?

See post #2

Shop.ca has specific policy against buying gift cards and earning miles.
I have occasionally got AP miles from Banana Republic, but not always.
I have never tried at any other eStore merchant.

Not buying from shop.ca, but estore... will see if miles will post in a few days.

Is shop.ca meant to replace aeroplan estore or is it more of a separate platform?

Shop.ca is a different platform, but earns you aeroplan miles.

Also, if you login through great canadian rebates you can earn cashback on your purchases, Aeroplan miles + cashback (currently 20% for shop.ca) + miles on your CC sometimes makes it for an interesting purchase, especially if the price is right, as sometimes it's more expensive
