question about altitude status miles

I need 1000 miles for Altitude. I will be flying LAX/YUL during Christmas and returning prior to 2015, I would only need one flight with 100% miles on Flex fare. If I flew Tango at 50% Aeroplan miles do these count for 50% status miles? I figure since I won't reach the next level, there isn't much incentive to spend the extra dough for Flex if I can get by for Tango.

Thanks in advance.
