Strange Tango/Flex Pricing YHZ-LHR

Hi Everyone,

Looking to book the above YHZ-LHR flight for 30OCT15; availability is open for the dates but the 30th is only showing Flex fares.

Every day up to to the 30th is $395ish; 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th and then BAM - $1584 Flex fare, 31st we're back to $395. Can anyone with an ExpertFlyer subscription tell me what's going on?

Thanks,
JasYHZ

I've seen this before when Air Canada Vacations has a number of seats held for them.

Thanks guys - I appreciate the response. I'm going to keep watching it; if it stays the same we may be going a day early

That is Air India codeshare inventory, not AC native inventory. AC inventory does not seem to be available this far out.

Maybe there is a halloween party at London and there is a large group from YHZ want to be there. And one of the group member is on FT, read this thread and cancel the trip so the price went back down.

This is too fare out to be able to discern any sort of pattern (the airlines themselves don't even know where their planes are going to be then), since pricing will reflect quality/premium conscious passengers that are indifferent to price.

Contrary to popular belief the earlier you book the better the price, the best pricing tends to be 30-90 days out. Anything further tends to be a crapshoot. Are you sure you couldn't have waited?

EDIT: Unless you thought this was a mistake fare (I'm not well versed in YHZ-LHR pricing).

$300-400 o/w is standard with a reasonable advance purchase outside of peak periods...

Living in Halifax and working at the airport I've been dealing with AC860/AC861 for years. I'm used to seeing a sale return ticket around the $1100-1300 mark and a one way always priced out at a full Y, M or B fare. Just the last little bit I've noticed that AC is selling international legs as half of a return fare (on this route anyway). Under $400 is a steal.

Your comment about the 30-90 days out made me curious so I checked those times; everything going forward from today is within the $355-395 range (Thu, Fri and Sat fares are $40 more than Sun through Wed) with the exception of Christmas week of course.

I'm pleased with my booking - now to wait a few more weeks for American Airlines to release 16NOV15 MIA-YHZ and I'll use some bump vouchers to book that at a zero cost

Thanks again everyone for your input
