I don't think my life will be complete, and that I have lived but an unfulfilled life, until the day I see them bring two wide bodies into LGA at the same time, and board both of them shortly after, at the end of the pier.
I think this would give me the opportunity to witness so many stereotypes in action, at once, in a small space, that would all at once be amusing, terrifying, overwhelming, and motivating. Human acts of depravity, selfishness and greed mixed in with ego, opportunism and physical abuse, all at once, in the same space.
Please, lord, let me experience this just once.

Order Zone Reverse In Boarding Were We, Delhi In
I'm a couple of weeks late in posting this ... but at the end of May I flew AC 43, DEL-YYZ. I was waiting for an upgrade to clear (and it finally did, yay) so I was not able to board with zone 1 ... which gave me a front seat view of the complete boarding process.
Chaotic is an understatement.
By this point I knew my upgrade was going to clear, so I wasn't overly hung up about the strange order .... but if I hadn't seen & heard it myself, I would never have believed it.
Chaotic is an understatement.
- First of all, they escorted all the children & families on.
- Next, they called zone 1.
- Then they called zone 5 (yes, really!)
- Next was zone 4.
- Then zone 3.
- Finally, they wrapped up by calling zone 2.
By this point I knew my upgrade was going to clear, so I wasn't overly hung up about the strange order .... but if I hadn't seen & heard it myself, I would never have believed it.

I've read it's split evenly. Limited experience indicated it's about the last 10-20% that is Z3.
The GA generally ignore zone once they call general boarding anyway. I don't think I've ever seen it enforced at the general level. Not that I've done it in 12 months.

Nothing surprises me about DEL and I've had some pariticlarly memorable airport experiences wIth say Air China (that make AC look friendly).
There's a reason AC lists 60 mins to board instead of the normal 40.
Paging Peever! We could have an entire DEL thread.

I have noticed most GAs enforcing the Zone 2.5 when they try to board before or with Zone 1.
Quite often the family with toddlers who are not I just Zone 1 butt in front of the Zone 1 line and then get asked to wait for after Zone 2 when they are called.
I also witness many GAs politely denying a Zone 5er attempting to board only when Zone 1 has only been called.

When boarding with my family we like to get on ASAP, start of zone 2, so we can get the kids seat ready without people all over the place. Every time we do so, they say that toddlers board after zone 2 (except once) and then I point out I'm zone 2 and they let me on.
In asia, pretty much every carrier allows children on first, ahead of diamond/gold/krisflyer pps, etc... probably why they rank higher in skytraxx, no pushing and shoving down the aisle while babies are being held and blocking the aisle with a parent while the other tries to set up the child's seat.

Many places in Brazil have a special line for people over sixty, pregnant women and disabled people. Just experienced this yesterday.

AC also has a special line for those people. It's after zone 2, and before zone 3

I'm not big fan of United, but most of their GAs follow their protocol every time, listing off each pre-board group and waiting a second or two to see if anyone starts to move before moving on to the next.
