Aeroplan City Pair mileage (new pseudo-MPM)

i imagine its your return leg from JNB that caused the denial in option 1.
JNB-ADD-DXB-BKK-ICN-LAX-YVR is 16,481
JNB-BKK-ICN-LAX-YVR is 14,941
The quoted YVR-JNB in the thread wiki is 16,158. The first one exceeds it by ~300 miles
MPM is not calculated on the entire round trip mileage. Its calculated per direction. The route in each direction (origin to farthest point & farthest point back to origin) has to fit within the city-pair mileage allowance.
Your BKK thing probably wont work either. YVR-BKK is quoted to be around 12,150 in the thread wiki, and BKK-ARN-LED-WAW-YYZ-YVR is over 12.5K.
It's close though, and the route has some wastage, so 2 ideas
1. if you can take a more direct route to LED instead of to ARN and back (geographically), it could probably work. Maybe a connection in Moscow instead of Stockholm (no idea if it even exists, just throwing it out there)?
2. if you use a different city than YYZ home that shortens the flight path, like via FRA, or even ZRH. YYZ is a big detour (it might look like a straight line on a flat map but on a sphere its way out of the way)
JNB-ADD-DXB-BKK-ICN-LAX-YVR is 16,481

So I'm still a bit confused as to how this all works.
What I'm thinking of booking is YVR-JNB-BKK-YVR. Alternatively, I'd be interested in YVR-LED-BKK-YVR (in either order).
So I called today and had...
YVR-LHR-JNB-ADD-DXB-BKK-ICN-LAX-YVR (total 26,824)
denied.
But...
YVR-LHR-JNB-BKK-ICN-LAX-YVR (total 25,284)
Approved.
Did I really go over with the extra 1,600? Or am I doing something wrong? I still can never tell if I'm ok or not unless the flights are in kind of a straight line.
So as I said I'm also interested in YVR-LED-BKK-YVR...what I'm looking at is like...
YVR-PEK-BKK-ZRH-LED-WAW-YYZ-YVR or something like that. But based on the lines on gcmap, I can't imagine it would be approved, so I tried to straighten it up a bit. YVR-PEK-BKK-ARN-LED-WAW-YYZ-YVR. Would either of these work? If not, is there a way to include these 2 cities together, or is it just a non-starter?
YVR-NRT-BKK-IST-ZAG-LED-ARN-PEK-YVR?
YVR-NRT-BKK-IST-ZAG-LED-CPH-YYZ-YVR?

FWIW, I was tooling around on the AP website and YVR-BKK-LED-YVR is valid, but one direction seems to be forced through Europe. I kinda wanted to avoid that, because sometimes finding availability not on LH is a bit tough, but now that I know it works I can narrow it down.
One routing that was valid was...
YVR-HKG-BKK (stop) BKK-ARN-LED (stop) LED-FRA-YVR
Problem was it included $900 of "surcharges" assuredly lots of that was LH and then some would've been from TG. So I just gotta try and find more LX/SK flights.
But again, thanks for the detailed post and for the comment about YYZ, because it does LOOK like a pretty good shot from CPH-YYZ, but I'll try ZRH or others.

Did not add the YYZ-AKL value, as someone already has a quoted MPM for this in the wiki, and it's quite a bit lower than what you were quoted.

Minor news, just called AP to get clarification on something...I also asked what the MPM was for YVR-JNB, it's now 16392, a small increase from before.
This is as of Jan 3, 2017.

Why would you need that number? (serious question). Unless you wanted to stop in ... say ... Gander or Greenland, there's nothing you can do to stop in between -- and literally ANY other point you choose will be further, hence requiring THAT point to become the MPM you need.

But my point is, *any* nonstop routing to LHR will be legal, and the moment you stop *anywhere*, that will be further than LHR so that will be the new MPM.

Why would you need that number? (serious question). Unless you wanted to stop in ... say ... Gander or Greenland, there's nothing you can do to stop in between -- and literally ANY other point you choose will be further, hence requiring THAT point to become the MPM you need.
