I've run into this before the rule change, so this is not new, you can go back thru the same city on each side of your destination, but not on an outbound/inbound.

In my case it was DEL-IST-ATH-JTR(stop)-ATH-etcetc, had to switch it to DEL-IST-SKG-JTR(stop)-ATH-etcetc, it had to be a continuous loup.

Previously had to do -FRA-KRK(stop)-MUC- as well, going back to same city was not allowed

Did you get the YOW-CHC MPM?

The only restriction for sure that I know of is not having a stopover twice in the same city.

If you've got the time, might be worth: a) calling again to get a different agent's response; b) insist to talk to a supervisor.
Thank you for the response Marlin. I did call back and tried my original request for a stop in IST and destination CHC with another stop in HKG and was told the MPM for this trip would be 14735 but the system would not approve my stopover cities either way. The agent said what could work for stopover on a CHC destination would be ICN or SYD.
She did say that making SYD our destination would open up IST and HKG as allowed city pairs.
So that is what we did.
Final ITN is
YOW-YUL-IST Stop IST-ICN-SYD Destination SYD- BKK- HKG stop HKG-ICN-ORD-YOW

On the topic of routing through the same city more than once, years ago I booked 2 tickets YYZ-FRA-MAD (stop) MAD-FRA-BRE (stop) BRE-FRA-YYZ all on LH in business

Those were the days

has anyone gotten any mileage pairs for na-europe? i ask because if there's one area where mpm should go up it really should for "closer" cities like yvr-osl, which have a very small "traditional" mpm. for example yvr-muc-osl would already be over 5M (and it'd only be allowed since it's a published routing under the old ap system)

Given the long call wait times, I haven't been able to find out any AP MPMs but I have been playing around with the multi-city planner. I've found that you cannot do YVR-YUL-IST to get to either OSL or ARN but you can to get to CPH. Not a lot of MPM (the real kind) difference between ARN and CPH...

Here's a fun one I found that works (using multi-city planner): YVR-YUL-IST-ATH (stopover)-PEK-YVR. Perhaps it's the way there that matters? (via this route, YVR-ATH is under the MPM whereas obviously the return trip is way over the MPM).

Every time I think I've figured something out, AP messes with my mind again.

Maybe I should spend the time waiting on the phone after all...

Just got off the phone with an agent, and it does seem like the MPM changes depends on what city you are connecting through. For example, I asked about YYZ-HKG, he quoted 10957. I then asked him to try YYZ-IST-HKG, this came out to be 10967. Almost the same but proves that the MPM changes... this makes the game somewhat harder i guess

Exactly this is why I've said you have to take all these wiki quoted posts with a grain of salt. Especially if you're looking to max out the mileage.

Ok so do you guys think the grain of salt might explain this...

YYZ-BKK is 11055, as I understand MPM you basically can make as many connections (keeping the stopover rules in mind) as long as going from YYZ-BKK you don't go over 11055 miles. So then I'm wondering why YYZ-IAD-DXB (STOP)-SIN-BKK worked? I managed to get all the way through the booking and gcmap (while it may not be spot on, it's pretty close) lists this as 11922.

My other follow up question in an attempt to understand this whole thing, and MAYBE be able to ballpark city pairs a bit, can anyone explain why YVR-BNE is only 7355 MPM when the real distance is 7351, whereas YVR-HKG is 8381 real distance 6392? I get that they are trying to limit you to "logical" connections, but with BNE being so tight and no direct flights, you'd exceed MPM just by going YVR-SYD-BNE.

YOW-AMS is 6230.

YUL-AMS is 6075.

Or, at least, I tried to book YOW-YUL-IST-AMS and was told I was over by 34 miles, then tried to book YUL-IST-AMS and was told I was over by 95.

Are some of the values on the wiki correct? I'm just looking at BNE-YVR and to me there's no way possible that it's correct.

Finally got my YYZ-HKT MPM quoted - 12,480. This makes me think that the YYZ-BKK number could be small if routing via the Atlantic. I just can't get any business seats on BOM-SIN to allow me to maximize that number via the Atlantic on SQ.

AC is now offering some EX Canada fares to Asia via the Atlantic. Does this increase the maximum MPN (via the Atlantic) or must the shorter distance (via Pacific) be used?

As an anecdote:

HAN-SIN-NRT-ORD-YYZ was rejected. (11,405 miles - over the official MPM5)

SGN-SIN-NRT-ORD-YYZ was allowed. (10,709 miles - within the official MPM5 of 10,945)
