Ok, so here is where AC catering failed. Flights often feature the lime and pepper chicken dish which is supposed to be served with vegetables. Perhaps they are hidden in the couscous? It's like a find Waldo exercise. All I know is that it was an unsavoury heavily salted congealed glob of disappointment. Once again, a rather dismal bread selection, with only "dinner rolls" available. They were like lumps of dough. AC is one of the few airlines that doesn't offer garlic bread or something thoughtful. Not even a croissant for the brunch option. That's why my plate remained empty. The fruit selection was sparse and had seen better days. Sadly a big zero from me on this meal. The only saving grace was that the FA quickly cleared the travesty and I did get an all knowing sympathetic shrug from the FA which seemed to say, "Yes, I know, sorry, but this is the crap they load." I had a look around and a lot of the meals were collected mostly uneaten. Compounding my irritation was that the snack options were not loaded or had been inadequate as there were no kit kats, no Miss Vickies, no sandwiches etc. I would have been angrier, but the flight had otherwise been so good that I just accepted it.

I trust now that folks can understand why I look on with amazement and envy at the wonderful options others receive.

@Transpacificflyer

Thank you for posting you're trip food report and photos. Also, please don't envy me. I'm sure you realize from reading my meal reports, there are plenty of quality and even quantity issues (look at many of the meat photos). I just post the food porn for those who may enjoy it.

As for smaller piece of cake, well, see, you need to go back and scroll through the photos. At the right angle - and with the right lighting - some things look bigger than they really are That cake from AC 62 in post 2014 (Feb 28) looks far bigger than it was, but size aside, it was yummy.

Ah yes, that look from the FAs. I've seen it. Sometimes that look comes with an apology, other times a shrug.

Regardless of what others may claim, I still think that when the snack baskets are missing, someone at AC found a way to save a few pennies. I really dislike that line "catering did not load them", forcing the crew to have to "explain things" to business class passengers.

P.S. AC is also that airline that serves hot meals on cold plates. I get that they opted not to have warming ovens and/or instructed crew to serve as is. As I posted previously, I prefer a hot meal to a pretty meal and plating it pretty much guarantees it's not going to be hot by the time I receive it.

I guess AC stripped the domestic flight menus from their web site, huh. I can't see them any longer.

The Duck Leg Entree was delicious the last time I had it.
Looks like the menu was taken down and replaced with the Sablefish menu and old desert. At least will have one more chance to have it

Which flight and day were you looking for, specifically? I'm assuming you tried searching for several different flights over several days?
(I guess your question is better suited for the North American meal offering thread and not this one)

@Transpacificflyer

I hope AC is reading your constructive criticism. (yes, they still do read FT despite many here who refuse to believe this).

My understanding is that you fly other airlines in J (I could be wrong). Comparing equal cabin of service to cabin of service, which airlines would you prefer AC try to aspire to?

Perhaps LH? I often find their offerings in C to be light and just right. Nothing too heavy or salty/etc.
Perhaps some of the Asian carriers?

Of course, aside from the occasional dish on AC international J menus that are inspired by the destination city/country, the rest of the fare is typically "North American", for the lack of a better description. So it might be of value to include a North American carrier that offers J with better food than AC. Although I fly other airlines as well, I rarely fly the US carriers (once or twice a year at most, in the last decade).

Thought I'd look and see what's doing on a random international route

I'm looking at my meal options for a YVR-SYD/BNE-YVR trip next week and noticed the infamous Barramundi on the menu. I seem to recall some pretty scathing reviews a while back.

Has anyone dared to try it recently?

On HND-YYZ Thursday April 5, they had no cognac. I asked right after the first meal service and was told "we ran out". after the first meal service ? J class had about 9-10 empty seats too.

Is it possible that certain spirits are only catered ex-Canada (i.e. that they run out on the outbound flight)?

I overheard a flight attendant and pax talking about some huge launch on April 17th. All new drinks (including Mimosas) as well as all new food menus. Has anyone else heard this? I didn’t see anything in here about it. What was interesting was that they were talking about a re-branding if Business Class... I didn’t know if it was just the food or something else.

this has never happened before with me at least. and most of these are available globally - if you cant replenish a Courvoisier for J class, your J class is crap.

For the 11PM YYZ LHR J, how long does the "express late evening dining" take? I can finish their meal in under 15 mins, but how long would it take for the meal to get to me? Seated in 5A

And is it possible to save it for breakfast instead via DINE ANY TIME (like instead of having that damn omelette again) I will just have the dinner prior to landing?

Theroritically yes. But the crew may give you some attitude for your special request.
