Air Canada FCO departure to YYZ to FLL process

Can someone walk me through this process for my son's flight next month.

Looks like it leaves out of Terminal 3 is that correct? I imagine they must pick up their bags in YYZ and pre clear US CBP?

In a nutshell....

Bags are checked all the way through - pick them up in FLL.

US Customs pre-clearance @ YYZ - proceed to next gate.

Very Easy.

Check-in @ FCO at Terminal 3. Depending on gate availability, aircraft will more than likely be parked at a satellite terminal accessible by a short monorail ride. Alternatively, it will be parked off site and accessible by a bus from a common holding area. Boarding generally commences 45 minutes prior to departure.

Notable though at YYZ you still have to go to the exact same room as before (where you used to pick up your bags). Now it's a waiting room, you look up at the screens, for your "code". It's like the 3 first letters of your last name, then your 3 letter destination (this is off memory so forgive minor errors). It'll also say what flights are currently being offloaded. It can be a bit of a slow process but once you see your name come up, you can proceed to the US customs line.

Agreed. We were on the direct Rome to Toronto flight on July 23 - definitely a zoo. We had to be bused out to the plane so make sure your son is at the gate with time to spare.

Our flight was really packed - as was our departure flight to Rome early in July.

If FCO is a zoo I can only imagine the boarding gate for the rogue flight...

Seating capacity is relatively the same for the Mainline & the Rouge flight. Should be no difference. Very limited gate capacity at that satellite, and seems that everybody using it (SQ, QR, US, DL, EY, etc) takes turns being parked off site.
