Asian CodeShare Rumour

Has anyone else heard any rumours about AC dropping one of their Asian routes and passing it over to a code-share partner? It is supposed to be announced in the up-coming week. Any speculation out there?

the only route I can think of is YVR-KIX and even that I think is unlikely.

Don't think it's likely. Those Asian routes are $$$$ for AC so they would be quite dumb to drop one of them.

Agree Empress: those routes are cash cows.

For some reason, YVR - NRT is available for December reward travel. During the same period, YVR - HKG and YVR - TPE are full everyday.

Maybe they will codeshare the Japan routes, with ANA or UA.

KIX is a very expensive airport to operate from, so that may be the one to go, with onward traffic fed into ANA's domestic routes. May also be a seasonal adjustment to focus on NRT as the NPacific destination.

I can see AC starting flights to SIN as soon as the new A340s come in next year.

Not a surprise for HKG flights. Dec is considered as high season for flights to HKG/TPE so AC is probably holding back the seats anticipating a high demand for revenue tickets.

There may be an announcement this week ... I am also thinking it might be KIX and ANA - finally with ANA metal into YVR (but perhaps another longer shot is TPE with Eva?). Time will tell...

I think it may be TPE. I flew back from TPE two days ago. I was talking to a FA onboard as he was the same one working the flight when I flew the same flight in July.

I had some problems with my video monitor so he fixed it for me and nd we started talking a bit more. I commented that I'll probably next month. He said that after September that he will longer do the route. He was not sure if the route was going to be cancelled or if it was going to a "Air Canada" crew.

We'll see what happens.

Not sure of the source, but a thread on Airliners.net mentions that AC will stop YVR-TPE October 28th and resume codeshar with Eva.

Eva Air 747 and MD-11's have "Deluxe" class... it might be simliar to "Economy Plus" by UA. I wonder if these seats will be available at no extra cost if codeshare takes place.

AC has confirmed that it'll pull out Taipei. For further info, please see separate post.

Asiana code-share is possible in 2003, when Asiana joins Star.

ANA is unlikely to fly their own jet to Vancouver or Canada. ANA has strong ties with AC. ANA code-shares ALL AC's Japan-Canada flight.
