No. If you had to cancel due to AC cancelling your flights, you might have a case. I've been burned by this too many times, so now I seldom pull the trigger in haste when it involves a 15% code.

Thanks.

I called Air Canada, they told that a promotion code just can be used only once. If you cancel your booking, the promotion code can not used again.

When I change a ticket with Promo Code applied in the past online, my new flight also got the same % off as well. Not sure if this is a bug with the online booking tool, or it is something the phone agent can do as well. But I do think if your ticket is a refundable ticket and you cancel and get the refund, the promo code will be gone. You can try asking Customer Relation and see if they will you re-issue a new one to you.

I have the same question as this thread-

I used a 15% off code to book tickets in mid January. I cancelled the ticket within 24hrs due to rumbling over corona (trip to was Japan in February 2020).

I was charged but got the full refund- however when I try now to use this AC code on the website for new itineraries, it is telling me that it has been used already.

Do I have a case to request this code by re-activated, esp as cancellation was within 24hrs- so all elements of the ticket should be refunded??

You can ask, and they should grant you a new code.

I called about this very thing. I was told the code would be returned to active status and could be used again. The problem is they won't extend the expiration date.

I had three flights that have been cancelled, all three were cancelled by me for various reasons and all three a promo code was used. I wrote in and received replacement codes for all three with an 18-month expiry date. I also wrote in on my two promo codes with July/August 2020 expiry dates and these codes were extended by six months.

Overall Air Canada has been nothing but accomodating and pleasant during this period of time. I am a firm believe its usually the approach to these situations that makes a big difference, but I have been wrong before.

If your cancellation is of the "cancel for future travel credit" variety, the code will be applied again when you phone back in to rebook since it will just be a change to the existing PNR. At least, that was my experience.

Is there any way we can confirm this? I am trying to decide if I should push a trip to NRT out further towards the end of the year or take the credit.

I assume if I cancel for a refund (minus a cancellation fee on a J ticket) then the 15% off code I used is gone so I would rather retain the 15% off code somehow since it comes to a chunk of change.

this is exactly what happened. Never had such a prompt response from AC.
thought it would take weeks.
they provided a new code, good for 18 months. Very generous as the current code expires in july.

Surprisingly impressed with AC

Unless you drastically change the type of trip. A "15% off all fares all markets" code, when applied to a SFO-YYZ trip, becomes a "15% off all fares North America" code, so you can't then go change it to YVR-NRT or you'll lose the discount.

Or at leas that was the case pre-Amadeus.

But what happens if the return was cancelled of a trip which was originally bought with a discount code?

I have had new promotion codes issued twice when I have had to cancel flights. I reached out to Customer Care (not the Concierge) and they were kind enough to issue a replacement to be used within 12 months.

I booked a comfort fare to Curacao in April with a 20% discount code. I'm looking to up-fare to Latitude to be able to upgrade to Business/Premium Rouge. A couple of issues/questions:

1. I am waitlisted for an upgrade and the system won't let me cancel the upgrade request (which I need to do to change the flight, as I was trying to see if the discount would be there if I tried changing the booking to a latitude fare). This (being unable to cancel an upgrade request) has happened to me earlier this year as well. Is there a solution other than calling in?
2. If I call in, will the agent be able to process the change with the discount applying to the latitude fare?
3, If I have to cancel, I gather upthread that I can ask to have the discount code reactivated so I could then book again. Last post on this was three years ago - anyone have more recent experience?
