missing a flight
 

Hello everybody,
I have a res.with aircanada, and i am looking for the best way to bypass this issue : i have a flight at 5.10 pm on aug.3rd from yhz to yul, then a connecting flight from yul to fco at 9.25 pm (same day).
I might be in need to postpone the first flight and fly later , onto the 6.30 pm yhz to yul flight.
To change the flight now, i will have to pay 500$.
My fare for that two connecting flight is Tango L .

(on the way in , from Fco to Yhz i have a Flex U class... i paid ALOT for this ticket!)

I am no elite customer on AC.

What are my options ?
I can also fly a day later , but still AC asks me to pay 600$ to change flight.

What should i do ?
If i just don't show up for the 5.10 yhz to yul flight, what happens ?

Your entire ticket would be cancelled, and you'll get the value of the ticket as a credit towards another flight for 1 year (not a refund, it would be credit on Air Canada.com), minus a $300 cancellation fee.

Your options I'm afraid are limited. Same day changes are only valid for earlier flights.

So really it's a case of cancel the ticket for $300 per person and then rebook. But the rebooking at a late stage will probably be much more expensive. Pay the change fee, which should be $300 per person plus fare difference, which is pretty extortionate for a YHZ-YUL fix, but that's the fare rule you agreed to when booking the ticket.

Or third, do everything in your power to be at the airport on time.

Unfortunately the Tango tickets are very restrictive - even if you have status, you generally pay a fee for changes.

As moorw003 mentioned, your ticket will be refunded for credit if you don't show, but I would assume that immediately rebooking on two same-day flights would be pricier than paying the change fee - and very tight, since you'd only have a 1h20m window between flights.

Your other option is to play a little with fire - try calling in the early afternoon and identify that you have an issue preventing you from making the first flight, and you were hoping to change to the next flight if there is space. Make it clear (nicely) that you're trying not to cause issues with AC by having a no-show, and perhaps they may help you out. I'd still plan on having to pay a change fee for a Tango ticket, but perhaps less.

Absolutely no guarantee, and I've only done it once where I arrived after the 45 minute check-in window - but I do have status.

You can always hope for a same day change option when you are doing OLCI, provided it's after midnight if I'm not mistaken. But there is certainly no guarantee of that being a possibility.

Lol, dude your options are either paying up big time, or just moving whatever else it is you need to do for that 1 hour difference.

This is why you either don't buy non-refundable/no-change tickets OR, when something like this comes up you just tell them "hey I can't make that meeting I've got this flight, can we move it to _____" or "no I can't take any appointments that late". If this wasn't last minute you would've known about it already and then wouldn't have booked this, so your new items should flow around this, not the other way.

Not true. Same day confirmed changes can be made for later flights. The problem is that the OLCI engine does not allow for this; it only ever shows earlier flights.

Although a pain in the butt, I've been able to get around this by going to the airport first thing in the morning, paying for the confirmed change, attending my meeting, and then taking my new flight later in the day.

Whether this will work or not is a guess. I've only ever done this on domestic flights; I don't know if this would work for an international fare or what they might try to charge in this case. SDC is also subject to availability; if the later flight is oversold this plan definetly won't work.

I can definitely confirm this to be possible on a intl itinerary. I have done it a few times in the, changing YUL-Europe for a later departure going YUL-YYZ-Europe or the like. These were Flex tickets.

Then again, I just called the concierge and he processed the change for me - but I guess anybody could show up at the airport in the morning and do so, but it would be a huge annoyance especially since OP is only trying to leave one hour later.

Things have changed now and to change flight beforehand is even way more expensive.
Now if i arrive late at the airport and miss my flight, they will have to reschedule me for the YUL-FCO flight too, possibly for the next day. My question is : how much will i have to pay for this ? If i change it now for the next day, i have to pay about 600$. Would it be the same if i miss my flight and they reschedule me ? thank you :)

As pointed about above, if you miss your flight the ticket gets cancelled. There's no re-arranging of the flight.

Not sure why you say "they will have to reschedule". They only have to honour the commitment originally made.

Not only that, instead of paying the change fee plus the difference in airfare that he would pay right now, he would most likely have to buy a new ticket at the full walk up fare (probably a lot more than the current change fee and fare difference).

Why would you have to reschedule your YUL-FCO flight?

The 18:35 flight arrives YUL at 19:15 and is a legal connection (130 minutes).
