To me, while you can't compare Y to J, so many people on this board make it out to be inhumane. The impression I got after reading here was that the seat was so tight that you were unable to move. After experiencing the actual product, I don't see what why people say it's so bad.
I guess a majority of the members in this forum are FF's that travel for business.. and if you have to work during the day and hop into a Y seat to your destination, you get rather uncomfortable relative to a leisure traveller who is just excited to be on vacation. It's "inhumane" that they must be subject to such discomfort when they are often expected to work upon arrival, and flying in Y will make it difficult to get the rest you need for that.

I don't disagree with anything you said. However, I've decided to sit in Y on the odd occasion for work travel when J was just too ridiculously priced *and* my schedule permitted getting in a day early. The price of a hotel room and meals was << the difference between Y and J. Just because policy allows me to buy J doesn't mean I enjoy wasting corporate dollars.

Cramped 777 J Class

Just flew YYZ-MUC in a 777 with the updated reverse herringbone dreamliner style pod set up. Although at first, it seemed identical to the 787 but after flying, I really think it is quite cramped. The opening seems narrower and everything seems to be a little tighter. Has anyone observed the same?

Thanks. Didn't know about the thread. Didn't even know they were already upgrading them. Will read up now.

Have they added the changeable (not to say AC ever does) headrest covers in J like the 787 yet? Or have they succumb to cost cutting.

I thought it looked out of place without them.

There were none on our flight as per photos (FIN 742 C-FIVS)

Also noticed none on our 789 to YVR. Hmmmm.

New Business Class

Hi
How can you be sure the 77W you are on has the new Business Class? If they are selling PE is this a guarantee?

Any pros and cons of taking the 77W vs 788 if they both have the new J?

thanks

Really depends on when your flight is. There is no guarantee if your 77W will have the new J or not until it has taken off, which makes the 788 a better choice (until the reconfiguration is done sometime in May). That being said, there have been a lot of substitutions recently for 788 flights, so it really is up in the air.

If they are selling PE on a 777 you are guaranteed either the new J seat or the HD J seat. Thankfully, the HD planes are typically limited to YUL-CDG, YVR-LHR and YVR-HKG, so if you see PE on another route it's highly probable you'll get the new pod.

Edit: Officially, nothing is guaranteed. But practically, swapping a flight where PE was sold to a non-PE aircraft is expensive for AC so they do all they can not to do that.

does this mean that, on a 77W, without PE, its the old style classic pods?

Not necessarily..... Domestically/Transborder they're not selling PE regardless of the config
