E-upgrade + SDC?

Any experience with doing a SDC after having done an eupgrade on a latitude or flexible premium fare? Can I do a SDC, then successfully re-upgrade on the SDC, assuming there is availability.

I booked a summer flight, not knowing that the flight an hour earlier is a 763 with pods. Currently on an A320 flight. Already e-upgraded on a B fare as part of a premium economy O booking for the 2nd leg.

Bought when O fare was $700/RT cheaper, so reluctant to cancel and redo booking.

My previous experience with this is kind of hit and miss. For it to work out and not be at the botttom of the list; there has to be R space available for them to immediately re-instate your upgrade otherwise you go to the DCS list and are re-prioritized by your status and fare paid and hopefully it clears at the gate.

On a Flex fare, you will always lose your upgrade and end up on the wait-list. Even if there happens to be R space available, you may have trouble getting an immediate confirmation at the airport.

On Latitude flight passes (within North America), you may SDC and keep the upgrade without any trouble. Any J seat will be available to you, ahead of all gate upgrades.

On other Latitude fares, policies should be the same as Flex above, but YMMV from time to time.

Thanks SEMM and Bluemilk

So it sounds like I'd have to play the R-games at T-24. Probably won't try it then, as I'd be gambling my wife's seat too.

If it's flexible, why don't you change it right now, rather than waiting for a SDC?

Indeed; if its a flexible fare, could you not just call res and change to another flight with O availability and R availability and simply be moved from one to the other?

I tried. Unfortunately the cost of the O fare has gone up by $700/rt, and when I called, the agent wanted to apply the difference.

Maybe I should try calling again and see if I get a different agent?
