I've had a few landings where I've wondered if the AC pilots were drinking from the Bus. Class drink inventory!!!

Well, at BWI, AC (Jazz) shares gate space with America West -- and when their CRJ recently needed a mechanic to look it over, they called on America West to provide the essential service. So this may be a little closer than comfortable. Drunk Pilot AND co-pilot, ugh!

"..and this has to do with Air Canada..??"

Maybe they were drinking in the MLL, and AC were serving doubles.

It has to do with safety and this is common to all carriers

No joy there, Skyhawk http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif This was in MIA and we don't have a MLL here. HP does have the counter right next to us but I've been on vacation, would have liked to had a prime seat to view that fiasco. Apparently it was the security agents who first notified authorities that there was a problem. The pilots in question started to hassle them about their coffee not being allowed through. The really sad thing is that this was a 10:30AM flight!

I suspect that to the pilots, it was really 22:30PM of the previous day (or 34h30, if that's clearer). Which would be of concern in terms of sleepiness even if not inebriation.

You guys should not be so quick to use out of date perceptions on HP.

Remember that these are the guys that are leading the reforms to ticket restrictions by the major airlines in the USA.

FlyerAl Jul 3, 2002 12:30 pm

That's true, you do have a good point. Thanks to them, I've taken advantage of great fares on AA to the west coast without any advance purchase or minimum stay requirements.

This is from the HP PR department, but it does show that this ain't the same old "America Worst"

Body: PHOENIX, Jul 1, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- America West's (NYSE: AWA) system-wide on-time performance for May 2002 was an industry leading 87.7 percent as reported today in the Department of Transportation's monthly Air Travel Consumer Report, a 14 percent improvement over the 77.0 percent reported in May 2001. Through the first five months of 2002, America West is first among all major airlines in on-time performance. The airline was also among the industry leaders in completion factor. For May, America West's percentage of cancelled flights was only 0.4 percent, an 80 percent decrease from May 2001.
"The hard work and dedication of our employees has once again resulted in industry leading operational performance and outstanding service to our customers," said Jeff McClelland, executive vice president, operations.

Additionally, America West reported 2.95 mishandled bags per 1,000 passengers, a 10 percent improvement over May 2001, and 11 percent better than the industry average of 3.32. At Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, where America West is the leading carrier and operates nearly 75 percent of all of its flights, the airline's on-time arrival percentage was 90.7 percent, up from 85.2 percent in May 2001, ranking it first among major carriers serving Sky Harbor for the seventh month in a row.

America West Airlines is the nation's largest low-fare, hub-and-spoke airline. Founded in 1983, it is the only carrier formed since deregulation to achieve major airline status. Today, America West is the nation's eighth-largest carrier and serves 88 destinations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. America West is a wholly owned subsidiary of America West Holdings Corporation, an aviation and travel services company with 2001 sales of $2.1 billion
