And yet there's a bunch of analysts rating this as a buy.

The current situation is not something AC typically listed as a risk in their annual report. I suspect AC, and the industry as a whole, may start doing so going forward. As exceptional events go, this one is pretty exceptional. And material.

Of course they rate it a buy..but dollars to donuts they are not buying the stock themselves.

My online trading company gives a little chart of how whether a stock is bullish or bearish. I look at it one week...90% are bullish, a week later that number is 30%. Most of it is just nonsense.

I surely didn't expect such rapid drop, given that the virus has been out and in the news for the LAST MONTH!! like people didn't care/notice? same for entire airline/cruise/hotel industry

$45, $43, $42, $40, $38, now $35
and tomorrow (futures -1.5%) even more?
Good thing I didn't buy that many, and will average down, but boy, wished we shorted instead

There are losses across the entire industry with every airline share losing value. AC has a strong business model and there has been share growth over a long period due to the strength of that model. It is likely that the stock will rebound. I am certainly going to dollar-cost average with the purchase of more shares once the markets settle a bit. Even with the Max grounding dragging on performance, AC had a solid year last year, and the company continues its transformation toward a sustainable and profitable model, much like the majority of the US legacy carriers (except maybe AA). Of course, I also wished I had shorted the stock, but I don't think the extent of the impact of the virus was apparent in late January. There may be further share price declines, especially if the virus continues to progress in Europe.

another Crazy day, AC dipped to $31.67 and recovered to $35? before TSX halts

Globe has come out with article on buying AC on the dip (-30%?)
TD upgrades CHR after its recent drop (-20%?)

The speed of the drop is insane, all in a week and not yet finished

What savings?

Every airline is tanking 5-10% DAILY (cruise lines are worse)
In a month, we'll all be $0 and no airline to fly with

I own HA, and AC, obviously BTFD too early

If you have a long term horizon over 2yrs, I think current price and anything lower represents good value.

Didn't your mom teach you never to buy airline stock?

You'll be lucky if they don't end in bankruptcy protection. Which should be a requirement before a government bailout.

We have about 2/3 of our savings in cash or fixed income. Turns out being conservative was a good idea. Of course we could have had 100%...
