Question about same day Aeroplan ticket changes
I have read that same day ticket changes for Business Class can be done for $75 at the airport, space permitting of course. I have no problem paying the fee, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in this sort of scenario.
I am booked BOS-YUL-YHZ, with just the YUL-YHZ segment in Business Class, since the BOS-YUL segment obviously doesn't offer it. That being said, I'd really like to avoid the DH3 to YUL, and would rather fly an Embraer to YYZ instead. So, a few questions then. Will the agent know enough/care that I am booked using a short-haul reward ticket, but am attempting to change to a long-haul one? And if they do make the change, providing there is J space available on the flights, would I be guaranteed a seat since I was making a confirmed change? Or would I have to be waitlisted on both flights? |
If the agent processed the change and charge your credit card, the seat is confirmed.
I had done same day change with a routing change before on a paid ticket. Hence, my guess will be that as long as it is a valid routing, it should be the departure and final destination that count. |
Anyone have any experience with this type of situation with a reward ticket?
Specifically, would I class inventory have to be available to do a confirmed change? |

Specifically, would I class inventory have to be available to do a confirmed change? Positive space needs to be available in the cabin. So if there are any business seats available, you can do a SDC. Since you're on a business ticket, it's also possible that they could confirm you in economy, and then have you stand by for business. However, that would mean it's J0, and you'd be at the bottom of the list for the upgrade. Also, business Aeroplan tickets might allow for some kind of free same day change, but I'm not sure, and Aeroplan.com is down for maintenance right now  |
J is currently 7 for both flights I'm interested in, but of course it is a week out, so who knows what will happen in the meantime (especially with another storm we're expecting the day before my flight)
Thank you, though. Completely cleared up my uncertainties. Although no, it's definitely $75 for a same day change fee, according to posts around the forum. I remember seeing something about it on either Aeroplan's or Air Canada's website a few years ago, but I couldn't find anything on either site anymore. |
