Upgrade possibility?

At the end of July I am flying YUL - FRA on Air Canada, booked in B class. I have Lufthansa FTL status (Silver Alliance). What is the probabiltiy of getting an Op upgrade? Is B class close to full fare Y? If it was LH Metal I could use points but since it's AC, I cannot. Are flights from YUL to FRA at the end of July pretty full?

the flights at the end of July are pretty
full. Wheather you get an op/ug depends on
how many SE/E are on the flight.

Order of comp upgrades on AC metal:

SuperElites
Elites
Star Gold
Prestige
Star Silver

I would say that you will have to be extremely lucky in order to get one.

Doesn't the fare basis come into play as well? I.e. for example would a full fare Y pax with AC Prestige level "rank" above a AC Elite level pax with a deeply discounted ticket?

No, not in a comp upgrade situation. It's entirely based on status, that's when your loyalty to their airline pays off.

Also, those who have paid for D class tickets [award business] but couldn't get a seat in J at the time of booking will rank above everyone.

I think in theory the answer is NO, but I have certainly experienced a different scenario so who knows.

You seem to be working on the assumption that the GA will upgrade based on the rules. I think this is a pretty big assumption. Often it seems that when under pressure to get the flight off on time, they will do whatever is easiest / quickest for them. Just another version of the AC lottery.

It really depends on the airport. YUL is pretty good at following rules (which is the one he's flying out of). Maybe Milton & Rupert do spot checks on them. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

We all know which couple of airports are the worse.

I was flying in last week on a V ticket and got a comp upgrade to J, so I guess they were going according to the rules.

The AC (don't know if they are contract) employees at CDG seem very competent and professional and have a great attitude, which is marked contrast to the AF ground staff at CDG http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

When I got the upgrade, I got the feeling that the list of pax to be upgraded was faxed in from somewhere else, anyone have more info on this process?
