Secret Jacket Hanging Code?

Flying IST - YYZ yesterday. I was wearing a (rare for me) suit jacket. I hung it on the coat hook in the pod, but was never asked if I wanted it hung in the closet. I noticed that everyone who left a jacket over the edge of the pod, or tossed in the footwell had it picked up and hung, but anyone using the hook had it left. I eventually asked to have it hung up when the meal service started. I'm not bothered by this at all, but wondered if there is some secret code involved, or just the way this was handled by this particular crew?

Normally mine is taken when I hang it on the hook. Not sure why the crew didn't ask you.

AC 810/811? Had similar experiences myself. I also found that if I left it hanging on the hook, I would either be the last to have it hung up, or would need to ask.

As mentioned, it tends to be primarily on this route, compared to others!

Secret Jacket Hanging Code?

It was on AC811.

F/A - "May I hang your coat"? or
Customer - "Would you mind hanging my coat".

No secret code, non-route specific, just good old communication.

Well said. I usually just have my jacket across my knee or in hand and that seems to work most of the time; but I do know how to ask. The FAs are often very busy during boarding so it's no big deal to wait a few minutes.

Imagine that....;)

Much as I hate to post secret codes on FT, in this case I will break my own rule. Here is the secret code:

"Would you please hang my coat in the closet."

I think slowly we're maxxing out of topics & thread to discuss here.

This is it. FlyerTalk is over for the AC/AP board. We can all go home now. ;)

Last minute sub of a 763 for a 320 on YYC-YYZ a couyple of weeks ago.

"Sir, today we only hang jackets, not coats."

No sure what the rationale was, except perhaps they were too few assigned to the J cabin so they would be overworked?

Iīd assume some sort of space limitation. Even if the FA doesnīt place their own stuff into the closet (which happens quite often IME), I donīt think thereīs enough room in the closet for 14 winter coats + several jackets.

Jacket hanging is at least one half-step up from the annual classic about someone having been seen with outdated luggage tags.

That might be true on a 320. Never occurred to me on an overseas trip though. And it does not look like there would be more coats on overseas trips either.

Thatīs impossible.:p

Based on my most recent flights I would like to propose the following very important discussion topics:

1. Why do some FAs only put one slice of lime (and not two) into my rum&coke and whom do complain to?
2. Why was there no National Post on my recent flight? (only Globe and Mail)
3. Is there a relationship between FAs using the miniature wine glasses instead of the regular glasses and the FAīs attitude towards J pax?

Shall I go on?

It's probably some sort of cost cutting measure by Calin, that or he knows how much better two limes taste and he's decided that E/SEs no longer get that pleasure.

I have had the opposite problem, only National post and no G&M.

Those little wine glasses are just terrible, too easily spilled. And too small.

Phew, I was worried I wouldn't be able to contribute if we were running out of topics..

In that case, and along those lines, let's petition for some hand-held lemon juicers at the MLL, so that I don't have to muddle lemon slices with a fork while mixing Courvoisier and Grand Marnier into my pre-flight sidecar.

Like I said, I asked and got the desired result. But was wondering if I was missing something. Maybe we need an airline etiquette book.

Waiting for March to resurrect that one.
