a "Y" class ticket.

Do all classes of tickets get charged the change fee, if you change dates?

Andrew Yiu May 24, 2002 12:49 pm

All destinations have different rules.

In general, a full "Y" ticket has no restrictions on min stay, advance purchase and no change fee. Some "M" class has no change fee. Most of the lower classes (N,L,Q,V,H,T,B...) usually carry a change fee ranging from $100 to $200+.

Also, you can only make changes to your inbound trip only. Changing the outbound would mean you need an entirely new ticket in most cases unless you buy up to the next highest fare.

ok... so if neither dates on the original Y class ticket were now suitable... could you just turn it in for a whole new ticket, no extra charge for doing this change?

AlmostThere May 24, 2002 12:59 pm

Yes, you change the dates very easily. My last trip was a M3(3 day advance) fare. I was able to move the reutrn without penalty once. The second I was within the 3 day window and had to u/g to the Y fare. but it was only like $300.00

When you say "Y" class ticket, do you mean Economy Class or full fare Y?

Assuming you're talking about a regular discount Y ticket, you can't just turn in your original ticket and ask for a new one with new set of dates. You will need to buy up to the next fare class to do that provided that you still meet all the requirement of that new fare class. Otherwise, you can use the value of your old ticket towards the purchase of a new one (+ change fee if it's in the same fare class).

AlmostThere, changing in inbound date is usually very easy (provided that you're paying the change fee). However, changing the outbound is another story especially if one is on a discounted fare. "M" is almost like a full fare so it was even easier in your case.

How can you tell the difference between an economy class Y and a full fare Y. Can you still use a SWU on an economy class Y?

Unless you are using a paper ticket (which will actually tell you the class you're booked in), the only way to find out is to call AC and ask them what fare class you're booked in. [Full fare is usually booked in Y or M and all the other classes are considered as discounted Economy Class]

As an Elite, you can use your SWU on full fare Y to Europe and on full fare Y or M to everywhere else.

I too, thought there was only one "Y" class ticket....

The only reason I would personally buy a "Y" class ticket, is to use the SWU to Europe...

Nobody-elite,

All non "J" fares are "Y". If you have a full fare ticket it will show as either Y1 or Y2. If you have a Y1 or Y2 ticket then you can change it without charge or get a full refund.
You must know what fare basis you bought the ticket in.? To give you an idea of cost a Y1 YYZ - LHR is $2200.00 and a Y2 for the same route is $2,995.00 "J" is $6,000.00. If you paid about $1,000.00 then your fare will be "Q" or "L"

Biggles.

Biggles, I am pretty sure the $2200 is a "M" fare not "Y". So not upgradeable for Elites.

They've changed the E-tickets recently. The last one I received had the booking class on it rather than just "Y" as it used to.

Andrew Yiu May 24, 2002 2:31 pm

Actually you're right.. forgot about that.

It now shows "X-CONFIRMED" where 'X' is your booking class.
