Dropping off a bag at transit airport
The two of us have three checked bags, and are thinking of booking a Lima - Toronto - London LHR one way ticket (as a connection, not a multi city) on AC. I am AC 50k, wife has no status. The estimated layover in Pearson is 7 hours. We are both Canadians that reside in the suburbs of Toronto.
I would like for two of the bags to go straight to London, but for the third bag, I would like to stop in Toronto. I will go through customs with it, and I can have a friend to pick it up and leave in Canada. I can re-enter the international zone and meet flight later.
Is this possible? Anyone tried this (stopping a bag at transit airport) before?
In case you are wondering why, we are transiting between South America and Europe legs of a vacation. And we would like to leave the polar and hiking gear at home that we needed in south America but not Europe
Thanks.

just called AC reservation line, according to the agent on the phone, if my ticket says LIM to LHR, I do not have a choice -- all bags will go straight to LHR.
I suppose I might be able to convince the check in agent in LIM to do what I want on the day, but I don't want to bank on that.
so, is the phone agent wrong? anyone got any idea if this is in the T&C fine print somewhere?

I don't know if they can do it to just one bag, but if they can't just have them short-check all of them to Toronto. Once there, pick them all up, have 2 of them retagged to LHR at the transfer desk and keep the one you need.
