Cabin Layout

Interior Specs can be found here https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/fly/onboard/fleet.html

- Window seats may feel narrower to come as the armrests are placed "into" the "curvature" of the cabin.
- Seats with no windows feel even more narrower as there is no space created by the curvature of window.
- All bulkhead seats have very limited legroom.
- Seats 15A, 16A, 16F, 17A and 17F have limited windows.
- Exit rows 19 and 20 have more legroom than regular preferred seats.

Routes

The 737 MAX is designated to replace the A320-series. Based on announcements and schedule updates, the following specific routes will be operated by the 737 MAX in future:

YYZ-LAX (periodic flights)
YYZ-SNN (new route)
YUL-DUB (new route)
YYZ/YUL-KEF (replacing Rouge A319)
YYT-LHR (replacing Mainline A319)
YHZ-LHR (replacing Mainline B767)
Hawaii Routes YVR/YYC (replacing Rouge B767)
Many domestic trunk routes (YYZ, YVR, YUL, YYC) now operated by 7M8, replacing A320 family

Speaking of novelty, wet coasters can take some photos of the new pudgy raccoon from YVR's domestic MLL tmrw morning, as they undergo gate fit tests just outside the window, at Gate 50. It should arrive shortly before 0900.
I do agree with you about the tight seat pitch, but it's always a bit of fun flying on new craft before the new plane smell wears off and a layer of filth is deposited on the cabin.

Thanks for the heads up- that will be a good view to see it in person, I still can't decide if I like the look or not.

Thanks for the photos, the cabin definitely looks more in line with the 787s and 777 refurbs. Nice touch to keep the IFE as well.

Question expansion of Rouge fleet?

A report in the Nov 2 G&M says AC is expanding its Rouge fleet (beyond 50 aircraft, 25 narrow body) with its new CALPA contract. (NB the report is behind a paywall, FYI):
https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/rep...beandmail.com&
The expansion is limited by the # of aircraft added to the mainline fleet on a 1:1 ratio i.e. two 737 Max = 2 more Rouge aircraft. It also suggests the expansion of the Rouge fleet will involve aging A 319/320s.
How many years of airworthiness are left in the A 319/320s? SFO?

What's up with the aisle floor? It looks all shiny! Is it covered with a protective plastic sheet or will it stay glossy like that?

Protective sheet during fitting out. No need to clean the work boots at the door.

As with all new deliveries it's protective plastic until the aircraft is pressed into revenue service. Most notable visible changes: Y seats are mono-coloured as opposed to patterned (unsure whether they are leather or fabric) & Thales current state-of-the-art IFE system has been selected.

How many years of airworthiness are left in the A 319/320s? SFO?
The A320 average age is 24.2 Years
The oldest craft is ms 059 | C-FDQQ | fin 201 which is 28.0 Years old
The newest craft is ms 2145 | C-FZQS | fin 240 which is 14.0 Years old

of all the A320s, C-FDQQ is the 6th oldest active A320 in operation globally.

The mainline A319 average age is 19.8 years
The oldest mainline craft is ms 562 | C-GBIP | fin 285 which is 22.2 Years old
The newest mainline craft is ms 1577 | C-GITR | fin 287 which is 16.6 Years old

Rouge A319 average age is 19.5 years
The oldest craft is ms 572 | C-FNYS | fin 251 which is 22.0 Years old
The newest craft is ms 1853 | C-GKOB fin 296 which is 15.0 Years old

Hope it has a better start, than the original Thales system.

I think the System is called Avant. Bear in mind the original system was circa 2005/6 first generation and we know how quickly technology changes. It's supposed to be a fantastic product.

We can expand upon this in another thread, but there aren't links between the concept of "airworthiness", a specific aircraft type/avionics suite and the pair of incidents in SFO. It's entirely possible the same errors could have been committed in a brand new 737Max.

it is 30" seat pitch all over or do the 'preferred seats' have a bit more leg room ?

They haven't specified, but if we compare the AC seatmap to other 737 operators, the preferred seats will most likely be 34".

The fact that there are preferred seats would suggest to me the pitch is greater.

Here is a close up of the J seats. Fabric back with a leather seat by the looks of it.

I'm really impressed with how AC has taken cabin design seriously since the 787s - the bulkheads, materials and style all really complement each other, which is a nice change from the solid blue of the XM cabins!
