*FAQ:
Q: On the 787-9 (789), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Rows 5 and 8 on both port and starboard sides have only one window, instead of two on all other port/starboard J seats.

Q: On the 787-8 (788), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Only row 5 port and starboard sides have zero windows.

Q: Does the middle J seats' middle divider come down?
A: No, on the 788 and 789 the middle divider does not come down and is fixed in place. In fact, all Dream Cabin (788, 789, 77L, 77W) middle dividers are fixed and do not come down.

tcook, Mrs T and I travelled in row 18 twice earlier this month. I am 6'4" and was delighted at the amount of legroom - much more than PE on the 788, and the front bulkhead in PE on the 777 Slaveships. But sshhhh, don't tell anyone otherwise everyone will want it....

Is there a lot of noise disturbance in seats 8A/K in the 787-9 from the semi-galley behind? Is this galley heavily used or is it more storage?

I don't know what "heavily" means for you, but for me I think it's just "used" normally.

Is this long haul/ULH?

I almost always sit in the last row of J in front of the galley you are asking about (either 8AK or 7DG)... there is some noise but I rarely notice and I never get disturbed by it.
Usually it's either gossiping FAs, or chatty pax who are waiting for the lavs. I think I have more tolerance for such things though, and usually have NC headphones on.

@yyznomad answered this pretty well. One thing to add is that as you move back the engine noise gets louder and louder. I am ok with engine noise, but I know many who are not.

Flew YVR-LHR in J and LHR-YVR PE this past week.

PE still the same, economy plus as opposed to anything premium.

My comparison is to the NZ 777 J as I know it well.
AC's J wins hands down for seat sitting comfort, table tray, space for storing your paraphernalia, massive screen, facing the window.
NZ wins for laying down comfort. Found the AC coffin quite tight.
Food and wine great on both.
The crews on both AC flights were exemplary, as were lounge staff and connections desk lady in LHR (Menzies contractor).

Sat in 8A in J, zero galley noise, could have been headphones though.

Really like the lounges with bars and bartender, much nicer vibe that those without. YYC MLL barlass on Thursday was fully decked for stampede.

It's clearly marked on the seatmaps. On both the 787-8/9 it's on the centre bulkhead...so in front of 12E

Currently have the choice of 5a or 8a on the 789. Any preference between these two seats? Thanks!

They both have a window missing. 8A is more private since there is no one behind you, but some people mind the noise and light from the galley.

The comment about the window missing in 8a is right. In my case, however, since I spend most of my time sleeping on those TPACs (most of my 789 flights), I prefer the back seats. Quiet, and wide open view on the cabin. I've personally never been bothered by the galley noise. It's the secondary preparation area, I believe, so not so busy as the front galley. Also, I appreciate the proximity to the lavatories. The window is a criteria, but the other aspects make up for it IMHO.

As for the noise, I wear the AC earplugs and I'm not sensitive to noise. I sleep like a log in airplanes. So, my comment is subjective, obviously!

@feist

On the Air Canada Fleet page

https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/...ard/fleet.html

You select the B789

And you can see the little baby and bed icon in front of the middle bulkhead rows

The missing windows at 5A/K and 8A/K have been in the wiki and discussed ad nauseum here for awhile now.

So you're implying the information on the ac website should be trusted 100%?
