AC just swapped a regular 737 with a ZIP configured one for my YEG-YVR on Saturday. Does it have less pitch than a regular 737? If the answer is yes then they should not do things like this as I didn't choose to fly zip. I would actually be a tad annoyed to be zipped out of J class by such a swap (flying in Y this time).

Well, CPs business class on the 737s used to use economy seats with the middle seat blocked off. When the aircraft were configured this way, with a uniform 32" seat pitch throughout, they had 19 rows. In an all Y format, that would translate to 112 seats (19 rows of 6 minus the two seats right next to the exit windows in row 9).
Tango/Zip's 737s have 117 seats. Even if they remove the closets, I don't see how they can fit that many in and still maintain the seat pitch in all rows. I suspect that many rows are still 32", but there are bound to be some with a 31" pitch. But I haven't been on board one of these planes to see what they've done. |
