Afaik spg offers the worse return on HOTEL spend, given that with hyatt, marriott, IHG, and Hilton, both require lower levels of spend for hotel cats. just off the top of my head: 30k top tier cat 7 park hyatt (paris/tokyo/sydney/etc.) @ 5pts per dollar on hyatt base sped = 6k hotel spend. 20k cat 6 fairly top tier spend @ 2pts per dollar on spg base spend = 10k hotel spend.
correct. hh gold > spg gold, imo

your two statements don't make sense. true, spg does offer fifth night free, but so does hilton (with their stupid devaluation): http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/promot...e-example.html

I was talking about earning points for stays then spend the points for free nights. This nice hotel only needs 3000 SPG points for a weekend free night:

That's why your statement doesn't make sense (and what I was referring to in my previous post):
So if you travel mostly for business, earn points with business travel then use the points for personal vacation, SPG can be the best choice.
If we compare JUST how close you are to a free night from base hotel spend, SPG loses nearly all the time.

I need to find out more about that when my current gold expires.
My travel either requires a specific "indy" hotel, or Hilton properties are convenient and optimal.

You can value the benefits of Gold status at more than $50, but I can't understand how you value Gold status at $50 when it's sold for less than that. (of course it's sold out now)

HH gold , room upgrade, free breakfast & WiFi, couple of free bottles of water and depending on property/room upgrade Exec floor access. Always positive at front desk thanking me as a gold and making sure I am happy.
I've had some spectacular upgrades this past year.
If it can be gotten for $50 it's a steal, I have earned it every year
SPG gold was free with Amex Platinum and is lame, free drink or WiFi you have choose, room upgrade well hard to tell, never seems like an upgrade.

Not really into hotels so I can't compare programs. But 2yrs ago we used our SPG points for a business suite in the Ottawa Weston over a summer long weekend. The hotel was full and our suite was sweeeeet. No blackouts, nothing. That was very nice! Shame the King Eddy left SPG so all our points got converted to Aeroplan.

I thought this is a thread about TD aeropeso card, but it sounds more like some people arguing about hotel programs.
Anyway, this is a special time everyone should apply to both td and cibc aeropeso cards, get the FYF and the bonus points.
The question is when all those people come to renewal time and people don't renew without fee waiver, how many customers will td and cibc lose.

Everyone can argue until the cows come home about which hotel program they think is the best. However, the best hotel program is the one that fits your needs. All other comparative variables are irrelevant.
This is the Air Canada forum. You can leave the Hilton/Starwood arguing to those respective boards.
