AC back to 2 Free Checked Baggages to Asia

My travel agent told me starting from tomorrow, traveling on AC operated/metal flights to Asia (PEK, PVG, HKG, NRT & ICN) can enjoy 2 free checked baggage again.

However, you or your travel agent need to request through the booking system 72 hours in advance. Where your agent required to submit a "SSR code". Can't just ask for 2 free checked bags at check-in counter, according to my agent.

I have no idea what to do if you book through website or aeroplan. Anyway I am going to trust my agent and pack 2 baggage to check in this Saturday to NRT!!!

I think under the pressure from CX/BR/KE, AC has to do something...... and what about 100% mileage on tango fare?? when will it return??

I'll believe it when AC says so. Hearsay from a travel agent though...?

I heard the same thing. Waiting for AC announcement (or not) too.

This certainly would be welcome for NRT/HND!

Not sure about HKG, ICN, PEK or PVG, but it seems that not too long ago NRT was the exception with two free checked bags in Y for non-status passengers.

I certainly hope this is true as we're planning to spend a month in Japan next year and had anticipated switching to JL ex YVR for the increased baggage allowance - as well as to be 100% certain to avoid AC's 77HD.

Please do post any more info when available.

Right now the AC website is still showing one free bag to NRT.

I'm not really sure that I would trust a verbal promise to my TA!

Would be nice if they return to free checked bags to the US.

Very good move. Asian people love shopping. One bag is simply not enough.

EVA Air (BR) always offers 2 checked bags to Asia (via TPE transfer), so it's good to see AC "match back". Even better for me as *A Gold as 2 becomes 3 luggages

Can you really carry 3 international-flight sized luggages? :D

According to AC's website it is still 1.
Maybe this is something this one specific travel agency is doing with a consolidator fare?

Also According to the website *A Gold looks to have 3 free checked bags.

I saw the same update yesterday from an unofficial source

If AC was to go back to 2 bags per pax....that would be a lot of bags on the 777HD flights! Even more if they continue the policy of forcing Y pax to check all wheeled bags on these aircraft.

I would not want to be waiting for luggage at the other end of one of those flights.

On the Asian end, no problem. I've made it off the plane, through customs, bags in hand at NRT in less than 20 minutes many times, and that's parking at one of the farthest gates.

On the return portion to YYZ though....

You guys have been complaining about the baggage speed at YYZ but for me every time I arrive at YYZ by the time I pass through immigration/customs baggage is already there. The immigration line is always crazy. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

I am not sure why it would be right that people with no luggage should be subsidizing luggage pigs?

Maybe because most people taking that kind of long haul are luggage "pigs"?
