Is this routing legal?

I tried a HNL-MEL return on aeroplan.com and it found a number of routings for that. One of them included changing planes in Tokyo. I thought I always wanted to visit Japan, so I thought I will try a multicity HNL-MEL (a few weeks here) MEL-NRT (one week here) NRT-HNL but it said invalid itin. Could I book this over the phone or is this really illegal? It would be absolutely lovely to visit Japan and Australia in comfy Air China and United lie flat seats for a mere 90 000 points

The HNL-MEL is really HNL-PEK-MEL, the MEL-NRT is MEL-PVG-NRT; only the NRT-HNL is direct.

Edit: I called Aeroplan as noone answered here and after a bit of hemming the agent figured it out -- it is valid with Melbourne being the farthest point point and so only 90K.

Good to know, but are you really getting true lie flat J seating on those segments?

HNL-PEK: In the Air China thread someone posted this http://planefinder.net/data/flight/CA838 handy URL and it claims 237 seats. http://www.airchina.com.au/en/manage.../a330-200.html claims the 237 seat version to be lie flat. At the chinese site http://www.airchina.com.cn/en/info_a...08/15451.shtml I do not see any other 237 seat version. Possibly the 283 seat version is the old one?

PEK-MEL: I found two posts http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/13591643-post2.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/22204901-post123.html claiming lie flat. Compare to http://planefinder.net/data/flight/CA177 which again shows 237 seats. It corroborates the findings on HNL-PEK.

MEL-PVG: well, the flight above makes a technical stop in Shanghai so it's very likely to be the same flight and so lie flat?

PVG-NRT: I *so* don't care.

Finally, United on NRT-HNL flies the good ole' jumbo jet with lie flat seats.

So... yes.
