Advice on a reward ticket
I am in weird situation and would appreciate the advice.
My company is flying me to RUH for bussniess trip. I need also to visit ATL for personal reasons. So I did something (maybe stuppid) and booked an award ticket with aeroplan ATL-FRA in J and told my company to book YYZ-ATL then FRA-RUH-MUC-YYZ in Y.
So today I get my ticket from the company and they booked YYZ-ATL-FRA-RUH-MUC-YYZ in Y and they told me they could not drop the ATL-FRA segment. My comapny told me either you take the ticket as is or pay for your own (they are not flexiable).
So now I am stuck with the award J ticket FRA-ATL and another booking in Y. The problem is if I dont use the the Y segment of ATL-FRA the rest of the booking will be cancelled.
Is there anyway where I can still use the award ticket and keep my reservation. or is my only option is to cancel the award ticket and be stuck in Y
Thanks

Why can't you check in with both tickets, get 2 boarding passes, then select
the J seat to sit in?
Of course, explain to gate personnel what you are doing.
Then you can collect miles on the Y ticket at the same time as you are redeeming
on the J
Should be analagous to "persons of size" buying 2 seats.

isn't there another thread on here yesterday saying
- if there are 2 reservations for the same person on the flight, both will be cancelled
- even if a POS (person of size) buys 2 tickets, only 1 will earn mileage
