AC Surcharges are a FARCE
booking 3 people
BLQ-YYZ 10/10 YYZ-BLQ 10/21 180000 points and taxes of $1834.38 Booked direct with Lufthansa $663.00 person including tax total $1889.00 ( just booked 10 minutes ago Does this mean that AC is valuing 180000 miles for $45.00 their surcharges are fraudulent |
wow... these threads are now DAILY!
There are ways of avoiding scamcharges, although they dont make it easy. |
The best value is the Classic reward. However, the surcharges are ridiculous.

It is specifically appropriate for this board as it regards the use of Aeroplan points, not LH points or any other program.

I just check AE website and yeah the charges are crazy, but there is only one leg with AC Metal, the rest are on LH. Perhaps a post on their board would be more appropriate?
This is entirely Air Canada's doing. LH is not making AC collect these scamcharges on Aeroplan award tickets. |

But OP is complaining about the YQ on the ticket that is imposed by the AIRLINE not AE. Book with UA if possible and watch the YQ disappear. It has nothing to do with AE.
And yes, you book the same flights with UA miles - the YQ dissppears. So there are two options here: a) Lufthansa is asking for these fees of ticketing carriers that issue award tickets , and United pays them on behalf of the flyer, while Air Canada passes it on to redeemers. OR b) Lufthansa has nothing to do with this, and Air Canada chooses to collect (and keeps) these fees, while UA/US/AV do not choose so for whatever reason geeee, I wonder which one it is considering UA/US are as cheap and cost-cutting oriented as it gets. |

... Well the answer is obvious, but my point was that this is an LH flight, not AC...

he is talking about using 180,000 AC miles + an insane amount of money. LH has nothing to do with it. The money is going into AC's pockets.

How do you figure LH has nothing to do with collection their outrageous YQ on LH tickets? AC is horrid for YQ but LH is just as bad if not worse. Given this flight is all LH, AC has NOTHING to do with it...
LH has nothing to do with YQ on those. Yes, LH revenue tickets - you can rant about it in the LH forum - but AC award tickets on LH metal, the YQ is going entirely to AC. btw, AC/LH YQ on TATL revenue tickets is the same ;) |

He is not complaining about AC reward tickets, he is complaining about AE reward tickets on LH Metal with LH flight numbers. The problem here is the assumption that AC=AE which is absolutely 100% does not.
Aeroplan is not the ticketing carrier, they do not plate tickets, Air Canada does. AC requests AE to collect YQ on tickets involving LH metal, AC issues the ticket, AC pockets YQ as ticketing carrier (by their own admittance) |
